For a Miyota 8215 or Seiko NH36A, push the crown in to wind, use the first click for the date or day/date, and pull it to the second click to set the time. The details differ by caliber: the NH36A guide specifies clockwise winding and a 55-turn full wind, while the Miyota manual says to wind 15–20 times to start the watch. PT5000-specific steps could not be confirmed in an authoritative operating guide, so use the watch brand’s manual rather than assuming either movement’s instructions apply.
Check the movement before turning the crown
These calibers do not share one universal procedure. Confirm the movement from the watch’s paperwork or caseback, then follow the instructions for that exact caliber. Seiko’s support site advises identifying the caliber code on the caseback and using its matching instructions: Seiko NH36 instruction manual. The NH36 is often referred to simply as “NH36”; the supplier technical guide labels its documented movement NH36A.

Miyota 8215: wind, set the date, then set the time
Hand-wind and set the time
- Leave the crown pushed in at its normal position and wind it 15–20 times to start the watch. This is the Miyota manual’s start-up guidance, not a full-wind specification. The manual does not establish a winding direction, so do not treat a particular direction as manufacturer-confirmed.
- Pull the crown to the second position to set the time. Set the hour and minute hands, then return the crown to its normal position.
The 8215 supports hand winding and stop seconds according to MIYOTA’s 8215 product page. Its instruction manual also describes quick date setting.

Set the date safely
- Pull the crown to the first position and use it to advance the date.
- Avoid quick-setting the date between about 9:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. The Miyota manual warns that doing so may prevent the date from changing the following day.
- Push the crown back to its normal position when finished.
Seiko NH36A: crown positions and winding count
Wind at the normal crown position
With the crown pushed in, turn it clockwise to wind. The Time Module (TMI) NH3 technical guide, version 03, says a minimum of 55 turns fully winds the mainspring. That number describes a full wind; it is not stated as a requirement every time the watch is restarted or set. A slight shake may start the movement, according to the same guide. Do not force a crown that does not turn smoothly.

Set the day, date and time
- Pull the crown to the first click. Turn left to set the date and right to set the day.
- Avoid changing the day or date between 9:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m.; TMI warns that setting the date in this interval can cause malfunction.
- Pull the crown to the second click to set the hour and minute hands. Check that AM/PM is correct, then push the crown back in.
These operating details come from the TMI NH3 technical guide. Its 55-turn instruction is specifically for a full wind.
PT5000: confirm the procedure with the watch maker
An authoritative PT5000 operating manual or technical guide was not available to establish its winding direction, crown positions, or any special cautions. Do not apply the NH36A’s clockwise direction or 55-turn figure, or the 8215’s start-up count, as PT5000 instructions. Check the watch brand’s manual or contact its support team for the exact procedure.

If the crown feels stuck or the date does not behave normally
- Do not force a crown that resists or moves unevenly. Stop and check the watch manual or ask the watch brand or a watchmaker.
- If a date does not advance after a quick-set, first consider whether it was set during the caution interval listed for that caliber. Avoid repeated quick-setting during that interval.
- If the watch’s crown positions or operation differ from these instructions, confirm the movement and consult the specific watch manual; case design and movement identity matter.
