To identify a James Bond movie watch, start with the exact film and then check a film-by-film watch chronology for the listed model and reference number. Treat that match as a candidate, not proof that a particular watch was used on set or that a watch for sale is genuine: some identifications are uncertain, and more than one watch can appear in a film.
Start with the film, not the brand
Bond has worn different watches across the films: specialist lists associate early entries with Rolex, several films from the 1970s and 1980s with Seiko, and films from GoldenEye onward with Omega. The franchise does not have one universal “Bond watch.” Find the film title first, then narrow the search by scene if the film includes more than one watch.

| Dr. No (1962) | Rolex Submariner 6538; the movie list also names a Gruen 510 Precision. | More than one watch is listed, so do not assume the Rolex is the only watch shown. James Bond Watches’ movie chronology and Bond Lifestyle’s Rolex listing. |
| The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) | Seiko Quartz LC, model DK001 / reference 0674-5009. | Search both the model and reference strings; they help distinguish the candidate. James Bond Watches’ movie chronology. |
| The Living Daylights (1987) | TAG Heuer/Heuer 980.031 Professional Night-Diver; Cartier 2961 Santos Carrée is also listed. | The chronology includes more than one identification. James Bond Watches’ movie chronology and scene-level reference index. |
| GoldenEye (1995) | Omega Seamaster Professional 300m, reference 2541.80. | The same reference appears in both specialist chronologies. James Bond Watches’ movie chronology and scene-level reference index. |
| Casino Royale (2006) | Omega Seamaster 2220.80 and Planet Ocean 2900.50.91 in the specialist chronology. An Omega statement dated May 17, 2006 identifies the watch featured as the Seamaster 300 M Diver Chronometer. | Keep the brand statement’s model-family description distinct from the chronology’s reference-level identifications. James Bond Watches’ movie chronology and reproduced Omega statement. |
| Licence to Kill (1989) | Rolex Submariner references 168000 and 16610 are listed as candidates; another index says 16610 is most likely and also mentions 16800. | Sources do not settle on one reference, so preserve the ambiguity. James Bond Watches’ movie chronology and scene-level reference index. |
How to check a film and reference match
- Write down the film and scene. A film title narrows the search; a scene can help separate watches when several are listed. Casino Royale (2006), for example, has two Omega models in the specialist chronology.
- Look up the film in a chronology. The movie-wristwatch list provides film-level entries. The definitive EON watch list includes scene-level entries and certainty ratings.
- Copy the full reference exactly. Keep every digit, period, hyphen and suffix. Examples include Omega 2541.80, 2531.80, 2220.80 and 2900.50.91, and Seiko 0674-5009. Similar-looking strings can identify different variants; do not silently trim or normalize them.
- Compare what is visible. Check the case shape and finish, dial, bezel, bracelet or strap, and distinctive features against images of the candidate. A visual resemblance can support a match, but it is not independent proof of a reference or a watch’s history.
- Check for disagreement and uncertainty. Look for alternate references, scene notes and certainty language. The specialist chronologies describe the identification work as ongoing, and some entries are marked under investigation.
What a reference number can—and cannot—tell you
A reference number is a useful model identifier: it can narrow searches in film chronologies and collector listings. It does not, by itself, establish that an individual watch is authentic or that it was the specific watch used during production. The film lists support associations between a film and a model or reference; they do not establish provenance for a watch offered for sale.

When comparing competing candidates, keep these questions separate:
- Film or scene: Does the candidate appear in the right film and, where available, scene?
- Visible details: Do the case, dial, bezel and strap or bracelet fit what can be seen?
- Exact reference: Does the full string match, including punctuation and suffixes?
- Identification confidence: Does the source mark the listing as certain, likely or unresolved, and does another source disagree?
- Claim being made: Is it a model associated with the film, or a claim about an individual watch’s authenticity or production use?
Use official brand material at the level it supports
Omega’s press statement dated May 17, 2006, reproduced by James Bond Watches, identifies the watch featured in Casino Royale as the “Omega Seamaster 300 M Diver Chronometer.” That supports a model-family identification. The more specific references 2220.80 and 2900.50.91 come from the specialist film chronology, so do not present the brand statement as if it independently confirmed those reference numbers.

Commemorative watches are another distinct category. A 2019 SWATCH Group article about the No Time to Die edition explains its military-style caseback markings: “0552” is a naval code-number, “923 7697” denotes a divers’ watch, “A” indicates a screw-in crown, “007” is Bond’s agent number, and “62” refers to the year of the first James Bond film. Those details identify that commemorative edition; they do not identify every watch Bond wore on screen.
