Start by switching off Always On Display, lowering brightness, shortening screen timeout and reducing alerts that wake the screen. If that is not enough, trim unused connections or use Power Saving—but Samsung’s stronger modes also limit features, workout accuracy or health data. Samsung does not publish a reliable number of hours saved by each individual setting, so make one change at a time and compare similar days.
Start with the screen and wake-ups
The display is a practical place to begin because you can reduce its activity without turning off the watch’s core functions. Samsung’s guidance recommends reviewing Always On Display (AOD), brightness, screen timeout and notifications. The effect varies by use; Samsung does not state how many hours any one change will add.

- Turn off AOD: If you are comfortable raising your wrist or touching the screen to check the time, disabling AOD is the clearest low-impact adjustment. You lose the always-visible display.
- Lower brightness: Choose a level that remains readable in your usual surroundings.
- Shorten screen timeout: Set the display to turn off sooner after you finish interacting with it.
- Reduce screen-waking alerts: Turn off notifications you do not need on your wrist, and disable the option that wakes the screen for alerts if available.
- Disable voice wake-up if unused: This can reduce a feature you do not rely on without affecting other watch functions.
Samsung’s 2025 Galaxy Watch Ultra product page advertises up to 60 hours with AOD on and up to 80 hours with AOD off. Those are manufacturer maximums for the 2025 model in normal battery mode, with Power Saving and Exercise Power Saving off—not guaranteed everyday runtimes or figures that should be applied to earlier Ultra models. Reduce Wi-Fi and mobile-network use selectively
Switch off Wi-Fi when you are not using a Wi-Fi network. On LTE models, consider reducing mobile-network use when your phone is nearby or you otherwise do not need standalone connectivity. Samsung identifies extended Wi-Fi or LTE use as a possible source of drain, but does not quantify the savings or identify one best LTE setting for everyone. Keep connectivity on if you depend on the watch for calls, messages or data without your phone.
Use Power Saving when you need a broader reduction
On the Galaxy Watch Ultra, Samsung’s documented path is Settings → Battery → Power Saving. Switch the mode on and review the options shown on your watch; labels and availability may differ with software updates or region. The quick panel may also offer access through its battery icon.

Power Saving is a bundle of restrictions, not simply a display setting. Samsung says it turns off Wi-Fi, AOD and wake-up gesture, while limiting CPU performance, background network use, location services, syncing frequency, brightness and screen timeout. That makes it useful when you need to stretch runtime, but less suitable if you rely on those functions. Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Ultra Power Saving Mode video, published July 24, 2024, describes these restrictions.
Decide whether Exercise power saving suits your workout
Samsung’s documented route is Samsung Health → Exercise → Settings → Exercise power saving. Use it only when extending a workout recording matters more than the features it disables or the best available tracking accuracy.
Rank #3
- GPS and heart-rate accuracy may be reduced.
- Bluetooth and network connections—including calls and messages—are disabled during exercise.
- Audio guide, wake-up gesture and split guide do not operate.
Samsung’s 2024 video says the mode supports up to 48 hours of workout recording. Treat that as an “up to” manufacturer claim, not a typical session duration; actual runtime depends on the workout and conditions. Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Ultra video.

Samsung’s Watch7/Ultra guidance says Limit health features is enabled by default in the documented configuration. While active, it disables workout auto-detection, high- and low-heart-rate alerts, background heart-rate monitoring, and movement and respiration tracking during sleep. Samsung also says sleep score will not be calculated while this option is active. Decide whether those alerts and records matter to you before changing the setting; you can disable the limit if you want those features. Choose the least costly change that meets your needs
| Option | What it limits | Trade-off | When it fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Disable AOD; reduce brightness, timeout or screen-waking alerts | Display activity and wake-ups | Less glanceability, a dimmer or shorter display, or fewer instant alerts | Everyday adjustments |
| Disable unused Wi-Fi or reduce LTE use; disable voice wake-up if unused | Connectivity or voice-trigger activity | Connected features may be unavailable while disabled | When you do not need those functions |
| Power Saving | Display, background activity, location, syncing and performance | Wi-Fi, AOD and wake-up gesture are off; other functions are limited | A longer day or time away from charging |
| Exercise power saving | Workout-session power use | Reduced GPS and heart-rate accuracy; workout connectivity and features are disabled | Long recording when the restrictions are acceptable |
| Limit health features | Automatic and background health tracking | Some alerts, auto-detection, sleep movement and respiration tracking, and sleep score are unavailable | When preserving those records is less important than battery use |
If the battery still drains unusually quickly
- Check for watch software updates. Follow the update route available in your watch’s settings or companion app; labels can vary by software version.
- Inspect battery usage. Look for an app or activity that coincides with the drain, and close apps you are not using.
- Run Samsung Members diagnostics if available. Samsung US lists diagnostics when the watch is paired with a Samsung phone.
- Seek service evaluation if the problem is sudden or persistent. Samsung’s general troubleshooting guidance does not give a Galaxy Watch Ultra-specific runtime threshold that proves a battery has failed, so runtime alone is not a diagnosis.
These are troubleshooting checks, not a guaranteed fix. Samsung’s US smartwatch battery-drain guidance covers multiple models, so the exact steps may not apply to every watch. Its Australia Galaxy Watch battery guidance is written for Australian variants.
