Turn off Always-On Display first: Google says Fitbit Edge’s estimated maximum battery life falls from up to seven days to up to two days with AOD enabled. Keep the health tracking you rely on, then adjust display, notifications and app use in small steps; Google has not published a battery-savings figure for those individual settings.

Turn off Always-On Display
In the Google Health app, open your Fitbit Edge device settings and disable Always-On Display. Google’s help page says enabling AOD reduces the stated maximum battery life from up to seven days to up to two days. These are manufacturer estimates, not guaranteed runtimes or independent test results. If you are comfortable waking the screen with a wrist raise or tap, this is the clearest documented way to reduce display use without turning off health tracking.

Make smaller display adjustments
Choose a screen-wake behavior and timeout that suit how you check the watch, and lower brightness if the display remains easy to read. Edge also offers screen timeout and watch-face settings. Google lists these controls but does not quantify their individual battery savings, so change one at a time and watch your own battery trend.

Google lists continuous heart-rate tracking, sleep and recovery metrics, nightly blood-oxygen and skin-temperature measurements, on-wrist ECG, floors climbed and exercise modes among Edge’s capabilities. Some features vary by region. Turning off a sensor may affect the data available to you; Google does not publish comparative battery costs for most health features, so there is no evidence-based ranking of sensor toggles as battery fixes.

Google specifically warns that use of blood-oxygen sensors may decrease battery life, but does not give an amount. If nightly blood-oxygen readings matter to you, keep the feature on and try the display changes first. Google says its health features are for wellness and are not intended to diagnose or treat medical conditions; they are not a substitute for medical care.
Reduce avoidable interruptions and location use
Trim notifications and apps
Review notification and app settings in the Google Health app. Turn off alerts you do not need and remove or limit apps you rarely use, if those controls are available for your setup. Google confirms these settings are configurable but does not state how much battery each change saves. Keep alerts and apps that are important to you, and assess changes individually.

Use GPS when the workout needs it
Edge has built-in GPS. Use it for outdoor workouts when you want location-based route, pace or distance data; disabling location tracking can remove information you expect from those activities. The reviewed Google guidance does not quantify GPS battery use, so treat it as a choice between workout data and possible power savings rather than a guaranteed fix.

- Note your usual pattern. Start with a few ordinary days of wear and charging so you have a practical baseline for your own routine.
- Change one setting. Begin with AOD, then test brightness, screen timeout, notifications or app use separately. Avoid changing several things at once if you want to identify what made a difference.
- Keep the tracking you need enabled. Check whether the data you care about—such as sleep, heart rate or workout routes—remains available after each change.
- Look for unusual use or charging problems. If the battery still drains faster than expected, consult current official Fitbit support rather than assuming a particular sensor is responsible. Google has not published a setting-by-setting battery test or independent real-world benchmark for Edge.
Top up instead of dropping essential tracking
Google says a five-minute quick charge can provide a full day of battery when the battery is low. That manufacturer claim uses the included USB-C cable and a 30 W adapter, which is sold separately; actual results may be slower and can depend on battery age and ambient temperature. Google Store lists 90 minutes for a full charge. Both figures are estimates, not guarantees.

When battery life has degraded
Google describes Edge as its first repairable fitness tracker and says its battery is replaceable. Repair options vary by region and availability, however, and Google discourages self-service repair unless you have appropriate technical expertise. Check current official repair options for your location before arranging service; the availability of a replacement battery or repair route is not universal.

Google advertises up to seven days on a charge, but describes this as an approximate maximum that depends on settings, use, environment and other factors. The estimate comes from 2026 testing in California on pre-production hardware and software, using a median Edge user profile across a mix of features default in Battery Saver mode. Actual battery life may be lower. The stated test profile should not be read as a guarantee that every listed health feature remains active in every Battery Saver configuration.
