Yes—if your Pixel Watch runs Wear OS 4 or later and your old phone is still available, you can move it to a new Android phone without factory-resetting it. Use Google’s Transfer watch feature in the Google Pixel Watch app and on the watch itself. Do not treat this as ordinary Bluetooth pairing.
Before you begin
Google’s no-reset transfer requires Wear OS 4 or later. It also works only with compatible Android phones; iPhones are not supported. Google lists these minimum Android versions by watch generation:
| Watch | Minimum Android version |
|---|---|
| Pixel Watch | Android 8.0 or newer |
| Pixel Watch 2 | Android 9.0 or newer |
| Pixel Watch 3 | Android 10.0 or newer |
| Pixel Watch 4 | Android 11.0 or newer |
Check Google’s compatibility requirements for regional, carrier, and model restrictions.
- Keep the old phone, new phone, and watch together.
- Install the latest compatible Google Pixel Watch app on the new phone.
- Update the watch, both phones, and the Pixel Watch app.
- Turn on Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or mobile data, and Location.
- Sign in to the same Google Account if you want account-linked services and settings to carry over.
- Charge the watch and both phones. Keep them within about 0.5 m (1.6 ft) during setup.
- Do not wipe, trade in, or delete the Pixel Watch app from the old phone until the new phone shows the watch as connected.
If your watch uses LTE, note its current phone number and carrier before starting.

Transfer the Pixel Watch without resetting it
1. Start Transfer watch on the watch
- Swipe down from the watch face.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap System.
- Tap Transfer watch.
This tells the watch to begin Google’s supported migration process.
2. Start the matching transfer on the old phone
- Open the Google Pixel Watch app on the old phone.
- Tap System.
- Tap Transfer watch.
- Tap Start transfer.
- Tap Done when prompted.
Labels can vary slightly by app version or language. Look for Transfer watch; do not use Android’s Bluetooth settings as the primary migration route.
3. Add the existing watch on the new phone
- Open or install the latest Google Pixel Watch app on the new phone.
- Follow the prompts to add a watch.
- When a pairing code appears, confirm that it matches the code shown on the watch.
- Sign in to your Google Account if requested.
- Tap Done to finish.
The watch remains connected to the old phone until the transfer to the new phone completes successfully, so do not disconnect the old phone prematurely. Google’s full procedure is documented in its Pixel Watch transfer instructions.
What should transfer?
Google says the transfer is designed to preserve the watch’s data and saved settings, avoiding the reinstall-and-reconfigure process caused by a factory reset. However, it may not be an instant, perfect clone of the old setup.

After pairing, check:
- Watch face, tiles, and installed apps
- Notifications and Do Not Disturb preferences
- Fitbit account and activity history
- Google Wallet
- Google Assistant or Gemini-related setup
- LTE service
Watch faces may take time to synchronize. Payment credentials, account sign-ins, carrier settings, and some phone-specific notification rules may also require confirmation.
If your Pixel Watch has LTE
During transfer, Google checks whether the new phone uses the same phone number:
- Same number: the watch can continue to be twinned with that number.
- Different number: you may be prompted to set up twinning with the new number.
Carrier activation may still require confirmation, and fees, supported countries, compatible models, and plan rules vary. For full talk, text, and data functionality, Google says the watch and Android companion phone must use the same carrier network in supported configurations. See Google’s LTE compatibility information.
If you no longer have the old phone
Google’s documented no-reset workflow uses the old phone’s Pixel Watch app as well as the watch’s Transfer watch control. Therefore, do not assume that a lost, broken, wiped, or traded-in phone can always be bypassed without erasing the watch.

If possible, recover access to the old phone temporarily and complete the official transfer. If the old phone was already factory-reset, try the available transfer or setup options, but be prepared for Google’s reset-and-restore route if the watch cannot connect.
Before resetting, back up the watch if the app allows it. Google’s backup path is:
- Connect the watch to Wi-Fi.
- Place it on its charger.
- Open the Pixel Watch app.
- Tap Google.
- Tap Backup, then Turn on.
A backup can take up to a few days, so do not wait until immediately before a trade-in. After resetting and pairing the watch, select the available backup during setup, enter the old watch passcode if prompted, and keep the watch on its charger while restoration runs. Google says backups can restore apps, data, settings, the watch face, and tiles, but reauthentication or reconfiguration may still be necessary.
Troubleshooting transfer problems
The new phone cannot find the watch
- Confirm Bluetooth, Location, Wi-Fi or mobile data, and adequate charge.
- Update Android, the Pixel Watch app, and watch software.
- Bring the devices within 0.5 m (1.6 ft).
- Restart the watch by holding the crown for about three seconds and selecting Restart.
- Reopen the Pixel Watch app and retry the official setup or transfer flow.
Google provides additional pairing troubleshooting steps.

The transfer freezes
Keep the watch near the phone and maintain a stable internet connection. Wait briefly if the app is clearly processing, then restart the watch, reopen the Pixel Watch app, and retry from the Transfer watch controls. Do not reset immediately.
You tapped “Forget” in Bluetooth settings
Manually forgetting the watch is not the same as completing Google’s transfer workflow. Re-enable Bluetooth, Location, and internet access, restart the watch, keep it close to the phone, and retry through the Pixel Watch app. Reset only if the official recovery steps fail.
You see “Can’t connect” or “Can’t pair”
Google identifies cases where pairing may require a reset, including trying to reconnect the watch to a phone that was factory-reset, or attempting to pair it with a previously paired phone without first pairing it elsewhere. Back up the watch if possible, then use the app’s System > Reset and unpair watch option and restore the backup during setup.
The watch is frozen on the Google logo
Restarting may help, but Google includes a factory reset among the remedies for a watch stuck on the “G” logo. Treat that as a last resort because it erases the watch.

You forgot the watch PIN
A factory reset may be required. A reset erases apps, settings, and data stored on the watch.

Resetting is the fallback—not the first step—when the watch runs older than Wear OS 4, the old phone is unavailable and no supported transfer path works, the watch repeatedly fails to pair, the watch is stuck during startup, or the PIN/passcode has been forgotten.
In the Pixel Watch app, Google’s reset path is System > Reset and unpair watch. Back up first whenever possible. Afterward, pair the watch to the new phone and restore the available backup, understanding that LTE, Wallet, sign-ins, and some preferences may need separate setup.
