However, this is now a retrospective update story: Samsung’s official update history shows that the stable One UI 8 Watch release reached the Galaxy Watch5 on December 17, 2025, as build R900XXU1DYK4.
That means Watch5 owners should look for the stable update rather than assume they are still waiting for beta access. The beta’s eligibility also did not guarantee every new health feature, because several functions require newer hardware.

What Samsung announced
Samsung introduced One UI 8 Watch on June 16, 2025, alongside new Galaxy Watch health and fitness features. The company described the beta as a limited program for users in the U.S. and South Korea, with eligibility language covering the Galaxy Watch5 or later released Galaxy Watch models. Samsung also warned that availability could vary by model and market.
This was separate from the broader One UI 8 beta for Galaxy phones. In an August 5, 2025 announcement, Samsung said One UI 8 Watch would expand beyond the Galaxy Watch8 series later in the year; that announcement should not be treated as the specific launch notice for every Watch5 beta variant.

On November 10, 2025, SamMobile reported that Samsung had added the Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro to the beta program in the U.S. and South Korea.
Which Galaxy Watches were eligible?
| Model family | Evidence-based status | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch5 | Eligible in supported markets | Named in Samsung’s beta eligibility language; later beta addition was reported. |
| Galaxy Watch5 Pro | Eligible in supported markets | Later beta addition was reported for the U.S. and South Korea. |
| Galaxy Watch6 series | Later-generation eligibility | Actual enrollment depended on market, model and program availability. |
| Galaxy Watch7 and Watch Ultra | Eligible as newer models | Feature availability still varies by hardware. |
| Galaxy Watch8 series | Launch-generation One UI 8 Watch devices | Not the same as the later Watch5 expansion. |
| Galaxy Watch4 | Unconfirmed | Samsung’s cited announcement did not confirm Watch4 eligibility. |
The safest interpretation is that Samsung’s “Watch5 or later” wording applied to supported markets and specific compatible variants—not an unconditional worldwide guarantee. The broader phone beta included markets such as the U.K. and India, but that availability should not automatically be applied to One UI 8 Watch.

How registration worked
Samsung used the Samsung Members app as the registration channel for beta programs. The exact banner or menu can vary by market and enrollment status, so not every eligible owner will necessarily see it.
Recommended Free Tools
- Update or install Samsung Members on the Galaxy phone paired with the watch.
- Sign in with the Samsung account associated with the watch.
- Look for a One UI 8 Watch beta banner, notice or registration card.
- Read and accept Samsung’s beta terms if the offer appears.
- Open Galaxy Wearable and check for the watch software update.
- Keep the watch charged and connected to the phone while installing firmware.
If the banner does not appear, check the Samsung account’s country or region, update Samsung Members, Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health, confirm the exact watch model, and consider whether enrollment has closed or the stable release has replaced the beta. Carrier and region-specific variants can also affect eligibility.
Do not sideload firmware or change CSC or region settings merely to force enrollment. That can create support, data-loss and warranty risks.
One UI 8 Watch features
Health and fitness features
- Bedtime Guidance: recommends a bedtime using sleep analysis, circadian rhythm and sleep pressure.
- Vascular Load: estimates stress on the vascular system during sleep.
- Running Coach: provides training guidance after a running-level test.
- Antioxidant Index: measures carotenoids using the watch’s BioActive sensor as a personal wellness reference.
Samsung also described broader improvements to sleep, heart health, fitness and nutrition experiences. These features are for general wellness and fitness, not medical diagnosis or treatment. Samsung says Bedtime Guidance is not intended to detect, diagnose or treat sleep disorders.

Interface and controls
The stable Watch5 release lists additional software changes, including a Now Bar for ongoing tasks, double-pinch controls for notifications, music and camera controls, important reminders, new charging effects, gesture-based notification responses, stacked notifications, smarter notification-display settings, watch-face recommendations, customizable multi-app tiles, a personalized Apps screen and the ability to choose which calendars appear on the watch.

Feature compatibility: software eligibility is not feature parity
| Feature | Hardware or software requirement |
|---|---|
| Bedtime Guidance | Android 11 or later phone and Samsung Health 6.30.2 or later. |
| Vascular Load | Galaxy Watch Ultra or later released Galaxy Watch series; wear the watch for at least three nights within the previous 14 days. |
| Running Coach | Galaxy Watch7 or later released Galaxy Watch series; a running-level test is required. |
| Antioxidant Index | Galaxy Watch Ultra or later released Galaxy Watch series; place a finger on the rear sensor for five seconds. |
Therefore, a Galaxy Watch5 can receive the One UI 8 Watch operating-system update without receiving every headline health feature. Samsung Health login and current app support are also required for the listed health experiences, and availability can vary by market.

Should you install the beta?
Beta firmware made sense for technically confident owners who wanted early access and were willing to report problems. It could also reveal how a particular watch handled the new interface before the stable release.
Stable firmware was the better choice for anyone who depends on the watch for sleep tracking, notifications, payments, fitness records or reliable battery life. Beta software can cause instability, battery drain, connectivity problems and app compatibility issues. Experimental Labs features can also be disabled in Samsung Health settings.

Because the Watch5 stable release arrived in December 2025, installing a beta is no longer the sensible route for Watch5 owners. Use the normal update path in Galaxy Wearable instead.
Stable One UI 8 Watch status for Galaxy Watch5
Samsung’s official Galaxy Watch5 firmware history lists the stable One UI 8 Watch update on December 17, 2025. The page identifies build R900XXU1DYK4 and lists Android Wear 6.0.
Rollout timing can still differ by country, carrier and watch variant. To check, open Galaxy Wearable > Watch settings > Watch software update and follow the update prompt shown for your device. Samsung’s page provides the verified Watch5 reference point; other models can have different builds and release dates.
Should you buy newer hardware for One UI 8 Watch?
If you already own a Watch5, there is no need to buy a new watch solely to obtain basic One UI 8 Watch software. Consider newer hardware only if a specific feature matters:
- Running Coach: Galaxy Watch7 or newer.
- Vascular Load or Antioxidant Index: Galaxy Watch Ultra or later released models, subject to Samsung’s market and hardware restrictions.
- Longest expected support runway: a newer Watch8-generation model, although its higher price is not necessary for basic One UI 8 Watch access.
Samsung’s March 2026 U.S. MSRP list showed Watch7 models from $249.99, Galaxy Watch Ultra at $649.99, Watch8 Bluetooth models from $349.99 and Watch8 Classic Bluetooth from $499.99. These are dated MSRP references, not guaranteed current retail prices. Check Samsung’s official watch product and upgrade pages for current availability and offers.
