Good care can reduce avoidable discoloration on a light-colored G-SHOCK, but CASIO does not promise that yellowing can be prevented completely—or provide a tested way to reverse it. Limit prolonged sun and chemical exposure, wipe the watch gently, and dry it thoroughly before storage. The exact cleaning steps depend on your model’s water-resistance guidance.
What causes a light-colored resin band to discolor?
CASIO warns that resin may discolor after prolonged direct sunlight, including ultraviolet exposure, or contact with certain chemicals. Dirt, sweat, heat, humidity, and prolonged wet contact with colored items can also contribute to discoloration or color transfer. These are risk factors, not a formula for predicting when a particular watch will change color: CASIO does not publish a rate or lifespan estimate for yellowing.

Yellowing is not necessarily just surface dirt. Appearance alone cannot establish whether discoloration can be cleaned away, and CASIO’s care guidance does not establish a method for restoring yellowed resin.
How to care for the watch and band
1. Wipe it regularly and gently
CASIO recommends frequent wiping with a soft cloth. For a resin band, its maintenance guidance says to wash with water and wipe dry with a soft cloth. Use light pressure: forceful, prolonged rubbing can discolor painted parts or printed figures.

2. Rinse residue off after exposure
After sweat, seawater, sand, or mud gets on the watch, rinse the resin with clean water where your model’s instructions permit it, then wipe away moisture. CASIO quality-assurance representative Ryosei Agari also recommends rinsing sunscreen or alcohol disinfectant from the watch thoroughly with water, wiping it dry, and letting it dry in a ventilated place. CASIO warns that these products can discolor or damage resin.
3. Dry it away from direct sun
Let the watch dry in a well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight rather than leaving it in the sun. In CASIO’s English version of a 2024-08-08 interview, which the page identifies as an AI translation, Agari says: “Therefore, it is best to dry it in a place not exposed to direct sunlight.”

4. Keep chemicals off the resin
Avoid contact with thinner, gasoline, solvents, oils, fats, and cleaners, as well as adhesives, paints, medicines, and cosmetics containing such ingredients. CASIO warns these can discolor or damage resin. If a spill occurs, follow the cleaning directions for your specific watch; do not try to remove it with another solvent or harsh cleaner.

Before putting the watch away, wipe off dirt, sweat, and moisture. Store it in a cool, dry place. Do not leave wet resin pressed against clothing or other items that may lose color: prolonged wet contact can transfer color to the watch or from it to other items.

Check your model’s instructions before rinsing
Water resistance and permitted cleaning methods vary by model. Check the operating instructions for the exact watch before washing or rinsing it, and follow any limits on water exposure. For example, CASIO’s Module 5719 manual says not to operate buttons while the watch is wet and warns against tasks involving soaps or detergents; that instruction is specific to the module, not a universal rule for every G-SHOCK.

Gentle water-and-cloth cleaning is supported for routine care, but CASIO does not establish that a special cleaner, abrasive treatment, polishing, or coating will reverse yellowing. Aggressive rubbing may damage painted or printed details. If the band is discolored or otherwise abnormal, CASIO advises stopping use and having the watch inspected by the original retailer or a CASIO service center. Band replacement may be an option; match any replacement band or bezel to the exact watch model. A replacement addresses existing discoloration or damage, not prevention.
