A DUG Purist uses a conventional central-hand analog display: the short hand shows the hour, the longer hand shows the minutes, and the thin hand shows seconds. Read them against the dial’s markers. Typ 1 dials use baton indices; Typ 2 dials use Arabic numerals. If your watch has the optional date, it appears at 6 o’clock.
What the hands on a DUG Purist mean
- Short central hand: hour. It moves between the hour markers as the minutes pass.
- Longer central hand: minutes. Read its tip against the dial’s minute markers.
- Thin central hand: seconds. It makes the seconds visible around the dial.
DUG identifies the functions as hour, minute, and central seconds in its Purist user manual. On Typ 1, the minute hand also reaches the rehaut minute scale; the seconds and minute hands extend to the tops of the hour markers, as described in a Fratello Watches hands-on article.

Read the markers on your dial
The hand-reading method is the same on both types; the labels around the dial differ. DUG describes Typ 1 as having baton indices and Typ 2 as using Arabic numerals on its Purist collection page.

On Typ 1, DUG specifies Swiss Super-LumiNova BG W9 on the indices for certain dial colors. Those versions can glow blue-green after exposure to light; do not assume the same luminous material or effect on every Purist variant. Details are on DUG’s development page.

How to read the date
The date is an optional calendar display, not another hand. On versions equipped with it, look at the window at 6 o’clock. A Purist without the date has no date to read there; DUG lists the date as optional on its collection page and shows its position in the manual.
How to set the time and date
- If the watch has stopped: On a 40 mm Purist with the DUG 400 movement, wind the crown clockwise about 20 times before setting the time. DUG describes the movement as automatic and gives an approximately 40-hour power reserve when fully wound. This guidance is specific to the model covered by the manual.
- Set the date, if fitted: Pull the crown to its first position and adjust the date. Do not change the date between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m.; DUG warns that doing so may damage the movement.
- Set the time: Pull the crown fully out. The seconds hand stops, allowing precise adjustment. Set the hands to the desired time.
- Resume operation: Push the crown completely back in. The watch’s manual says the crown may feel firmer than expected because a seal, rather than a screw-down crown, is used to maintain water resistance.

The 40 mm Purist and Purist 37 are separate models with different movements and strap widths. The product specifications are listed on DUG’s 40 mm Typ 1 page and Purist 37 Typ 1 page.
