The right setting procedure depends on your Citizen Eco-Drive’s caliber and features. Find the caliber or model number first, then use Citizen’s instructions for that watch. For a basic watch with a date window, Citizen’s general guide uses the crown’s second click to set the time and its first click to adjust the calendar—but those steps are not universal.
Find the instructions for your exact watch
- Check the caseback for the caliber. Citizen says the caliber is typically a four-character code beginning with a letter. You can also look up your model number on Citizen’s site.
- Open Citizen’s matching setting guide. Enter the caliber on Citizen’s Watch Setting Instructions page. To find a manual through a product listing, use Citizen’s manual instructions; the guide is listed with the product details or features.
- Check the guide before moving the crown. Confirm the crown positions, adjustment directions, and any calendar restrictions or special setting steps that apply to your model.
Set the time and calendar on a basic date-window model
For standard two- or three-hand models with a date window, Citizen’s general directions are to use the second crown click for time and the first click for calendar adjustments. Follow your watch’s manual if its instructions differ or if it has additional functions.

Adjust the time
- Pull the crown out to the second click.
- Set the hands to the correct time. If your watch has a 24-hour hand or date-change indicator, check whether the time is AM or PM. Citizen’s B620 manual calls out this check for that caliber; it is not a feature or instruction to assume on every model.
- Push the crown fully back to its normal position.
Adjust the date or day
- Pull the crown out to the first click.
- On applicable day/date models, Citizen’s general DST instructions say to turn the crown counterclockwise to set the date and clockwise to set the day. Use the exact direction and method stated in your caliber guide.
- Push the crown fully back to its normal position.
Citizen says turning the crown counterclockwise to set the watch is safe, but that does not replace the model-specific instructions for calendar adjustment or other functions. See its crown-setting guidance.

Not every Eco-Drive is a basic hands-and-date watch. Radio-controlled, satellite-wave, world-time, perpetual-calendar, dive, and chronograph models may require other crown positions, buttons, hand positions, synchronization steps, or a reset. Citizen’s setting information is organized by caliber; use the procedure written for your model rather than applying the basic steps to a multifunction watch.

Calendar adjustment windows can vary
Some calibers restrict when you can adjust the calendar. For example, Citizen’s B620 manual says not to adjust its calendar while the watch indicates between 9:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. That is a B620-specific instruction, not a universal Eco-Drive rule.
Radio-controlled and satellite-wave models
Time-setting and synchronization procedures depend on the caliber and watch functions. Follow Citizen’s guide for your model; its instructions for radio-controlled and satellite-wave watches also recommend service evaluation if problems persist after the manual procedure.

If the watch has stopped or the seconds hand jumps
A watch that has stopped or whose seconds hand moves in two-second steps may need charging, a caliber-specific reset, or both before ordinary time-setting will work. Citizen says charging and reset requirements vary by movement, so check the manual for the caliber before trying a reset.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsAs one model-specific reference, Citizen’s B620 manual gives approximate times to start normal operation from a discharged state: 50 minutes in sunny outdoor light or 7 hours in cloudy outdoor light. These are B620 estimates, not charging times for all Eco-Drive watches. The same manual advises avoiding charging at about 60°C (140°F) or higher.
