To switch on the epix Pro (Gen 2) flashlight, hold LIGHT, choose Flashlight, and press START if the light does not come on automatically. For a faster shortcut, press LIGHT twice from any screen. Use UP or DOWN to adjust brightness or color; after the double press, make the adjustment within the first three seconds.
These built-in LED instructions apply to epix Pro (Gen 2) Series models. Garmin’s epix (Gen 2) Standard/Pro Series Owner’s Manual, version 12, is dated August 2025.

Turn on the flashlight
- Hold the LIGHT button to open the Controls menu.
- Select Flashlight.
- If the flashlight is not already on, press START.
For quick access from any screen, press LIGHT twice. To adjust brightness or color with this shortcut, press UP or DOWN during the first three seconds.

With the flashlight on, press UP or DOWN to change the brightness or color. When you use the LIGHT double-press shortcut, the adjustment window lasts only the first three seconds after the shortcut.

Garmin notes that flashlight use can reduce battery life and that lowering brightness can extend it. Garmin’s battery-life assumptions for the 51 mm epix Pro (Gen 2) do not quantify the flashlight’s runtime or battery drain, so there is no supported figure for how long it will run or how much battery it will use.
Add Flashlight to Controls if it is missing
If Flashlight does not appear in Controls, add it to the menu. Hold MENU, then select Appearance > Controls and add a shortcut. From there, you can also edit or reorder controls. Garmin’s LED flashlight support page also advises adding the control to the menu if it is missing.

Set up a strobe
Choose a preset strobe mode
- Hold MENU and select Strobe.
- Choose a mode.
- Press START.
Create a custom strobe
- Hold LIGHT, then select Strobe > CUSTOM.
- Optionally press START to turn on the strobe.
- Select Edit.
- Use UP or DOWN to reach a setting, then press START to cycle through its options.
- Press BACK to save.
Use Distress Pattern with care
To display configured emergency contact information and start the distress flash pattern, hold MENU, select Distress Pattern, and press START. Emergency contact information appears only if it has been configured in the Garmin Connect app. The feature does not contact emergency contacts or emergency services on your behalf; do not rely on it to summon help.

Garmin’s owner manual warns: “This device may have a flashlight that can be programmed to flash at various intervals. Consult your physician if you have epilepsy or are sensitive to bright or flashing lights.”

Model compatibility
The built-in LED flashlight documented here is available on epix Pro (Gen 2) Series models. Garmin’s manual covers both Standard and Pro models, but do not assume the LED steps apply to a non-Pro epix (Gen 2). Check the manual for your specific model.
