Keep authenticity separate from warranty coverage: a real watch may not qualify for OMEGA’s manufacturer warranty if its certificate does not meet the authorized-retailer requirements.
What you can verify—and what you cannot
There is no single paperwork check or serial-number lookup that proves a watch is genuine. OMEGA recommends buying from its boutiques or authorized retailers and says authentic watch paperwork includes a serial number, model reference, purchase date and retailer name and address. For a current-collection watch, an OMEGA Boutique or authorized service centre can check whether the model corresponds to the serial number. OMEGA calls that correspondence an important indication, not a guarantee of authenticity. OMEGA’s FAQ explains the limits of this check.

A serial number, warranty card or box can be copied or paired with a different watch. If authenticity remains in doubt, ask OMEGA what inspection it can perform on the specific watch; do not treat a database match as a formal authentication certificate unless OMEGA explicitly provides one.
Check the Costco purchase and the exact watch
Keep the purchase records
Save the original Costco receipt or online order record, packaging, warranty card and any other documents supplied with the watch. Costco’s U.S. watch-policy excerpt calls for the original receipt when seeking the remedies it describes. Keeping the records also helps OMEGA or Costco identify the exact purchase.

Confirm the reference
Find the model or reference number on your order record or the product listing, then compare the stated model and details with the watch and its paperwork. Costco has listed different OMEGA families and references; a listing for one model says nothing definitive about another listing—or the authenticity of an individual watch. Check the page for the exact item you bought.
Compare the serial and card details
OMEGA says an authentic warranty card includes a serial in one of two formats: an eight-digit number or a seven-character alphanumeric code. The card should also show the watch reference, purchase date and retailer’s full name and address. Current watches typically have the serial on the caseback or a lug; vintage watches usually have it inside the caseback and on the movement. Do not open the watch to look for a movement serial. Look for inconsistencies between the card, reference and watch, but do not assume that matching details prove the watch is genuine. A counterfeit can carry copied numbers or paperwork that belongs to another watch.
Ask OMEGA for a watch-specific assessment
- Contact an OMEGA Boutique or authorized service centre. Use OMEGA’s local service channels; the linked FAQ is from OMEGA Hong Kong, so procedures may differ by region.
- Provide the reference and serial details. Ask whether the serial corresponds to the model, particularly if the watch is from OMEGA’s current collection.
- Ask what examination is available. If the numbers match but you still have concerns, ask whether staff can inspect the movement and components, what the assessment covers, and whether they can provide written documentation. The FAQ does not promise a standalone authentication service or certificate.
- Do not infer authenticity from service eligibility alone. OMEGA says a wrong movement proves a watch is not authentic and that it may refuse service for a counterfeit watch or one with non-OMEGA movement or components. That makes qualified examination more meaningful than a visual check or number lookup, but ask OMEGA what it can conclude about your particular watch.
Understand the warranty separately
OMEGA states that new watches have a five-year international warranty, subject to its certificate conditions: the certificate must be dated, fully and correctly completed, and stamped by an authorized OMEGA retailer. A warranty card is therefore not, by itself, proof of authenticity or proof of valid warranty coverage. See OMEGA’s warranty terms.

Costco U.S. product listings reviewed for a Seamaster Planet Ocean and a Constellation state that Costco is not an authorized dealer and that the manufacturer’s warranty may not apply to the specific item. Those disclosures are not a finding about every Costco OMEGA or every purchase. Check the exact item’s listing and paperwork, then ask OMEGA directly whether the particular watch has eligible warranty coverage. Costco’s U.S. Customer Satisfaction Policy describes repair, replacement or refund options for watches and says the original purchase receipt is required. It also says Costco may remove an original manufacturer warranty card on some products when a manufacturer restricts warranties to authorized dealers. Costco’s remedy is separate from OMEGA authentication and manufacturer warranty coverage; confirm current eligibility and process with Costco for your purchase. Tests that can give false confidence
- A matching serial: OMEGA says model-to-serial correspondence is an important indication, not a guarantee.
- A complete card and box: These are supporting records, not conclusive proof that the watch and documents belong together.
- An online serial search: A result does not establish that the physical watch has its original, genuine movement and components.
- A magnet test: OMEGA discusses magnetic resistance for certified Master Chronometer models. That specification is not a universal authenticity test, so do not expose a watch to a magnet as proof.
