Huawei Watch 4 Pro review: Titanium body with a touch of class

The Huawei Watch 4 Pro is a luxurious, long-lasting smartwatch with excellent materials, but its large case and regional software limitations keep it from being a universal buy.

Verdict: The Huawei Watch 4 Pro remains a handsome, unusually premium smartwatch with a titanium case, sapphire-covered AMOLED display, broad health tracking and genuinely useful multi-day battery life. It is not a universal recommendation, however. Its large, heavy body, restricted app ecosystem, inconsistent payment support, regional eSIM limits and less convincing hiking GPS make it a better luxury fitness watch than a complete Apple Watch or Wear OS replacement.

Buy it when premium materials, traditional styling and battery endurance matter more than apps and payments. Avoid it when you need guaranteed wallet support, a lightweight case, deep phone integration or the strongest outdoor navigation.

Design and comfort: excellent materials, substantial proportions

The Watch 4 Pro looks more like a traditional premium watch than a lightweight fitness tracker. Its titanium case, sapphire cover, large round face and rotating crown give it a clear luxury-watch identity. The crown is especially useful: scrolling through menus and notifications feels more natural than repeatedly swiping across the screen.

Titanium brings a refined appearance and a favourable strength-to-weight ratio, but it does not make this a small watch. At roughly 47.6 mm wide and 12.9 mm thick, the case will dominate a small wrist. The quoted 65 g excludes the strap, and a titanium bracelet adds noticeably more weight than leather or composite alternatives. It may also become uncomfortable during sleep or exercise for people accustomed to lighter watches.

The sapphire glass is the more meaningful durability feature than the titanium itself. It should resist scratches better than ordinary strengthened glass, but it is not indestructible. Huawei’s spherical design also creates a trade-off: the curved surface looks elegant, yet an independent review found it noticeably reflective outdoors. That can matter more in bright sunlight than the otherwise impressive contrast and black levels of the AMOLED panel.

Strap options vary by market and edition. Do not assume that a listing includes the same strap, bracelet or warranty as another country’s version.

Display and controls

The 1.5-inch LTPO AMOLED display is sharp, colourful and well suited to watch faces, workout statistics and maps. Its 466 × 466 resolution works out to approximately 310 pixels per inch, so text and icons look crisp at normal viewing distances. Touch response is good, while the rotating crown provides a more dependable way to scroll when fingers are wet or the interface is crowded.

The curved sapphire cover improves the premium appearance but increases reflections. Always-on display mode makes the watch feel more like a conventional timepiece, though it has a significant effect on endurance. Huawei quotes up to three days in Standard mode with AOD enabled, compared with about 4.5 days in Standard mode under its stated conditions.

HarmonyOS, Huawei Health and notifications

Core navigation is smooth, and the Watch 4 Pro supports multitasking and message replies in supported applications. Huawei Health is essential for setup, watch faces, health data, firmware updates and advanced settings. Android and Huawei-phone users generally get the most complete experience.

“Works with iPhone” should not be read as “offers iPhone feature parity.” App availability, replies, integrations and health functions can differ by phone platform and country. Keyboard responses are also not universal across messaging applications.

Notifications deserve more caution than the smooth animations suggest. An independent review of the launch-era HarmonyOS 3.1 software reported delayed notifications, notifications reappearing after deletion, brief freezes in the notification area and occasional message-sending failures. The review page later records software updates, including HarmonyOS 4.2 and 4.3, but those observations should be understood as review-period findings rather than proof that every current unit has identical problems. Check the installed software and recent user reports for the regional model you intend to buy.

Health tracking: broad sensors, region-dependent features

The hardware is unusually comprehensive. Huawei lists optical heart-rate monitoring, ECG, skin-temperature sensing, blood-oxygen monitoring, a depth sensor, barometer, compass, gyroscope, accelerometer and ambient-light sensor. The watch also supports sleep tracking, arterial-stiffness assessment, Health Glance where available, and a wide selection of workouts.

That breadth does not mean every function is available everywhere. ECG, arterial-stiffness assessment and some Health Glance features can depend on country, account region, compatible phone, software and regulatory approval. Confirm the specific feature on Huawei’s local product page before buying an imported watch.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

These are wellness and fitness tools, not substitutes for medical equipment or professional diagnosis. An ECG or other health result should not be treated as a diagnosis merely because the watch can display it.

Exercise, GPS and water use

The Watch 4 Pro covers mainstream activities including running, cycling and swimming, with GPS tracking and outdoor sensors such as a compass and barometer. It can import or export routes where supported by the relevant software version, and its outdoor hardware is more capable than that of a basic lifestyle smartwatch.

It is less convincing as a dedicated adventure watch. An independent review found GPS acceptable during running and cycling but less reliable on a hike. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a standardized benchmark, but it is enough to make serious hikers compare route navigation, satellite accuracy, breadcrumb mapping, continuous-GPS endurance and emergency features against Garmin and Apple alternatives.

Huawei specifies 5 ATM water resistance and free diving to 30 metres under stated conditions. This does not mean unrestricted diving. Huawei says the watch is not suitable for scuba diving, technical diving, dives beyond 30 metres, hot showers, hot springs, saunas, high-pressure rinsing or fast-flowing water. See the official water-resistance restrictions before using it in water.

Battery life: good, but not 21 days in normal smartwatch use

The Watch 4 Pro’s endurance is one of its strongest advantages, provided the headline figures are read in context.

Usage pattern Evidence-based expectation
Standard mode About 4.5 days under Huawei’s stated conditions
Standard mode with AOD Up to 3 days under Huawei’s stated conditions
Standard mode with eSIM About 2 days under Huawei’s stated conditions
Ultra-long mode About 12 days under typical stated conditions
Ultra-long mode, light use Up to 21 days under Huawei’s specified conditions
Independent use with tracking enabled and AOD off Approximately 4–6 days in one review
Independent use with AOD, eSIM and tracking Closer to 2 days in that review
Independent charging observation Approximately 90–100 minutes

Huawei’s figures come from defined test conditions; the independent results reflect one reviewer’s usage. They are not directly interchangeable. The “up to 21 days” figure belongs to Ultra-long Battery Life mode and light-use assumptions. It should not be understood as normal use with LTE, AOD, frequent GPS, health tracking and regular app activity.

The battery estimates are documented on Huawei’s UAE specifications page. Wireless charging is another practical advantage, although the included magnetic charger remains the expected charging method.

eSIM and standalone use

Applicable Watch 4 Pro models support eSIM/LTE, but the feature is not globally interchangeable. Carrier support, plan type, activation procedure, regional hardware and network compatibility all matter. A watch bought abroad may have different LTE support or may not activate with your carrier.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

eSIM also changes the battery equation: Huawei quotes approximately two days in Standard mode with eSIM enabled under its stated conditions. Verify the exact carrier and country before paying extra for an LTE model. If activation fails, the watch should be treated as a Bluetooth companion rather than a fully independent phone replacement.

Apps, payments and the smartwatch ecosystem

This is where the Watch 4 Pro loses ground to Apple Watch and Wear OS.

  • The health status feature looks for changes in your health data that could indicate added stress to your body for key metrics such as heart rate, HRV, skin temperature and more, which could be related to factors such as physical activity, potential illness or other health changes (device data presented is intended to be a close estimation of metrics tracked)
  • Log custom or preset daily behaviors — such as caffeine and alcohol intake — and view reports in the Garmin Connect smartphone app on how lifestyle choices may impact your sleep, stress and HRV to help you make more health-conscious decisions (device data presented is intended to be a close estimation of metrics tracked)
  • Apps: Huawei’s catalogue is smaller than watchOS or Wear OS, with less access to the familiar third-party services many buyers expect.
  • Payments: Contactless-payment support varies substantially by country and may be limited or unavailable in many regions. Do not assume Apple Pay, Google Wallet or Samsung Wallet equivalents will work.
  • Messaging: Replies and keyboard input depend on the application and phone platform.
  • Music and services: Integration can be less comprehensive than on Apple, Samsung or Google watches.
  • iPhone: Compatibility exists on supported software versions, but feature parity with Android or Huawei phones is not guaranteed.

The result is straightforward: if you mainly want notifications, calls, health tracking, workouts and long battery life, the restrictions may be acceptable. If you want transit passes, a large third-party app selection, dependable wallet support or deep phone integration, they are central disadvantages rather than minor omissions.

Huawei Watch 4 Pro versus the alternatives

Huawei Watch GT models

A Watch GT model is the more sensible Huawei choice when lower cost, lighter wear and longer battery life matter more than the Watch 4 Pro’s titanium construction, ECG or eSIM potential. Exact differences depend on the GT model and country. Huawei’s 2025 Malaysian campaign placed Watch 4 Pro and Watch GT 5 models in the same broader range, but that historical promotion is not a current September 2026 price guide.

Huawei Watch Ultimate

The Watch Ultimate is aimed at buyers who want a more rugged luxury design and stronger diving-oriented positioning. It is likely excessive for ordinary notifications, sleep tracking and workouts, and its additional bulk and premium positioning reduce its appeal as an everyday watch.

Apple Watch

Choose Apple Watch for an iPhone-first experience, payments, third-party apps and deep communications integration. The trade-off is generally shorter battery life, and Apple Watch is not a practical choice for Android owners.

Samsung Galaxy Watch

Galaxy Watch is the stronger option for Android users who want Wear OS apps, Google services and a broad general-purpose smartwatch experience. Samsung-phone owners may also receive deeper ecosystem integration. Some health features remain phone- and region-dependent.

Garmin

Garmin is usually the better direction for serious runners, cyclists, hikers and endurance athletes who prioritize training analytics, navigation and long GPS sessions. The Huawei Watch 4 Pro offers a more polished traditional-watch appearance and broader everyday smartwatch styling, but its outdoor tracking should not be assumed to match a dedicated sports watch.

Who should buy the Huawei Watch 4 Pro?

Buy it if:

  • You want a traditional, premium-looking smartwatch with titanium and sapphire materials.
  • You value multi-day battery life more than a large app ecosystem.
  • You use Android or a Huawei phone and mainly need health, fitness, notifications, calls and music controls.
  • You appreciate a rotating crown and scratch-resistant sapphire protection.
  • Your country supports the health, eSIM and payment features you actually need.
  • The local sale price is substantially below newer premium alternatives.

Avoid it if:

  • You specifically require Apple Pay, Google Wallet or Samsung Wallet.
  • You depend on many third-party apps or transit passes.
  • You have a small wrist or dislike heavy watches.
  • You regularly hike and need the strongest possible route tracking.
  • You expect every messaging app to support wrist replies.
  • You are buying for medical monitoring rather than general wellness.
  • You are importing a regional model without checking LTE, ECG, warranty and carrier compatibility.

Buying checklist

  1. Check your country’s Huawei product page, not just an overseas listing.
  2. Confirm the exact case, strap and LTE/eSIM model.
  3. Ask your carrier whether the watch’s eSIM can be activated on your plan.
  4. Confirm ECG, arterial-stiffness, Health Glance and payment availability locally.
  5. Compare the watch’s current local price with newer Huawei, Apple, Samsung and Garmin models.
  6. Check the return policy, warranty region and whether the unit is new, refurbished or imported.
  7. Consider trying the case on your wrist; 47.6 mm and 12.9 mm is substantial.
