What is the Hublot Big Bang Unico Italia Independent Blue?
It is a collaborative version of Hublot’s Big Bang Unico, made with Italian eyewear designer Italia Independent. Time+Tide reports that Hublot announced the partnership in late 2014 and released the blue model at Baselworld in 2015. Its review, published on 3 December 2015, is the contemporary hands-on account of this edition.
The watch’s identity is primarily visual: a 45 mm blue composite case, an open dial that reveals the chronograph movement, blue accents and a denim strap with silver studs. The combination makes it a deliberately conspicuous fashion-led take on the Big Bang rather than a discreet dress watch.
What is Texalium?
Time+Tide describes Texalium as a composite material with an ultra-thin aluminium coating. The review says it can be treated and finished in different colours and has a weave somewhat larger than carbon fibre. On this edition, the material gives the case its blue surface and visible woven pattern. That description is the review’s account; a manufacturer technical sheet was not verified.

How does the dial and movement work?
The open dial exposes Hublot’s HUB 1242 UNICO column-wheel chronograph movement. Time+Tide describes the movement as reserved grey, set against electric-blue dial details. The contrast makes the mechanism part of the watch’s appearance rather than hiding it behind a conventional closed dial.
The review says the movement took four years to perfect. That duration is a claim in the review, not an independently corroborated development history. The article does not provide a testing protocol or measured results, so it does not establish this specific watch’s accuracy, durability, comfort or water-use performance.

What is it like to wear?
Time+Tide’s reviewer characterizes the blue as exceptionally bright and the overall watch as a choice for fashion-forward wearers, not people seeking a subdued look. The 45 mm case, vivid material and silver-studded denim strap all contribute to that effect. Those are design observations, not a measured assessment of fit or comfort.
