The Hublot MP-09 Tourbillon Bi-Axis is a large, hand-wound watch designed around its most conspicuous feature: a tourbillon near 6 o’clock that rotates on two axes. One axis completes a rotation every minute and the other every 30 seconds. The 49 mm case, curved opening and prominent display make the mechanism the organizing idea of the watch, rather than a detail hidden behind the dial.
What is the Hublot MP-09 Tourbillon Bi-Axis?
“MP” stands for Manufacture Piece: Hublot’s name for a watch built around a distinctive in-house technical or design idea. In the MP-09, that idea is a bi-axis tourbillon visible through a large aperture near 6 o’clock. Hublot introduced the model in 2017; later versions changed the case material and colour treatment, so specifications should be read by edition rather than assumed to apply to every MP-09.
The dial arranges its information around the opening. Hodinkee’s 2017 launch report describes the time display in the upper-right area, a power-reserve indicator on the left and the date shown along two arcs. This asymmetrical layout gives the tourbillon room and keeps the rest of the displays legible around it.
How does the bi-axis tourbillon work?
A conventional tourbillon turns its regulating assembly around one axis. The MP-09 adds a second rotation: according to Hublot’s 2021 announcement and the Fondation Haute Horlogerie’s model listing, one axis makes a complete turn in one minute and the other in 30 seconds. The result is a changing, three-dimensional view through the case opening.

The architecture is also a visual decision. Horbiter’s 2021 account of the King Gold version describes the case as layered and the aperture as a way to present the mechanism. That observation refers to the pictured King Gold watch; it should not be taken as a construction description of every case variant.
Movement, winding and date setting
Hublot identifies the movement as calibre HUB9009.H1.RA. It is manually wound and has a stated 120-hour, or five-day, power reserve. The user manual says to wind clockwise using the time-setting crown, and advises winding when the reserve indicator approaches the red zone.

The date is corrected with a side-mounted date corrector, rather than by treating it as a standard quick-set function at the crown. Hodinkee’s 2017 report describes a side lever that advances or moves the date back by one day. Refer to the manual for the correct operation of the specific watch in hand.
Case size and water resistance depend on the edition
The 49 mm diameter is central to the MP-09’s wrist presence. For the King Gold model listed by Fondation Haute Horlogerie, the stated thickness is 17.95 mm and water resistance is 30 m. Hublot’s 2021 specifications also give 49 mm and 30 m (3 ATM) for the Rainbow 3D Carbon reference. These are large, display-focused watches; 30 m water resistance is not a diving specification.

The later carbon editions are not simply the original watches in a different finish: Hublot’s announcement describes coloured 3D Carbon cases and matching design details. Do not transfer a strap, case-material or other reference-specific detail from one variant to another without confirming the exact reference.

The available figures establish a hand-wound movement, a five-day reserve, two tourbillon rotation rates and the dimensions or water resistance of particular listed versions. They do not establish present availability, resale value or a current retail price. Historical launch prices and limited-edition counts are useful for understanding the model’s original positioning, but are not a buying quote.

Hublot CEO Ricardo Guadalupe described the company’s approach in its 2021 announcement: “Our engineers come up with the concepts, our designers run with them, and our watchmakers build and produce them.” That is Hublot’s own account of its process, not independent evidence of product quality.
