The Artigiano “Sashiko Denim” from Arsène Lippens is a limited, mechanical, manually wound watch whose 12 hour markers are hand-stitched directly through a denim dial, borrowing the running-stitch repair tradition of Japanese sashiko. It is the second release in the brand’s “Threads of Time” textile-craft series, made with Dutch artist Pey van der Wel of SASHIKODENIM, and it is reference 0599-SD.
What makes this watch different
Most denim-themed watches rely on a printed texture, a distressed finish or a fabric-look insert. The Sashiko Denim takes a different route. The markers themselves are stitched into the denim, so the dial is a textile object first and a timekeeping surface second. Hodinkee’s October 8, 2026 launch report describes the craft as the defining feature of the design, and it is the reason the watch sits closer to a piece of mending than to a conventional novelty dial.
How the stitched dial works
Hour markers and cross-hatching
The dial carries twelve hand-stitched hour markers. At the 3, 6, 9 and 12 positions, the stitching is set as cross-hatches, which gives the four cardinal points a slightly heavier, more deliberate presence than the rest of the index. Because each marker is a stitched element rather than an applied or printed one, the reading of the dial depends on the thread and denim rather than on crisp printed edges.
Where the analogy stops
Traditional sashiko work is often built at a larger scale: patched panels, visible seams and contrasting denim tones that interact across a garment. A watch dial is a few dozen millimetres across, so it cannot reproduce that surface. What the Sashiko Denim brings over is the stitch vocabulary and the idea of visible repair, not the full patchwork effect. Readers expecting a patched-looking dial in the garment sense should expect something more restrained.

Expect dial-to-dial variation
Each dial is stitched by hand, and Hodinkee notes that individual pieces differ and that stitch alignment may vary from one watch to another. For most buyers this is part of the appeal, but anyone who needs perfectly matched markers across a set should understand that the variation is built into the craft.
Reported specifications
The table below reflects the figures Hodinkee published on October 8, 2026. The brand’s official community-watch page describes made-to-order personalisation in general terms, but the Sashiko Denim’s own specifications are reported from the launch article rather than independently confirmed.

Launch price and edition size
Hodinkee reports a price of CHF 1,900 and an edition of 10 numbered pieces. The reported sale window opens on October 9, 2026 at 9 a.m. EDT and runs for 48 hours or until the run sells out, whichever comes first. These are the announced terms as of the October 8 report. They are not confirmation of current stock, and the window had not yet opened when this article was published, so check availability directly with Arsène Lippens before planning a purchase.
The strap
The watch ships with a denim strap that matches the dial. The 20mm lug width reported by Hodinkee suggests that an alternate strap should fit, but the report does not describe the attachment geometry, such as whether the lugs use a standard spring-bar arrangement or a proprietary fitting. Before ordering a third-party strap, confirm the spring-bar length and lug shape with the brand or a watchmaker, rather than assuming that any 20mm strap will seat correctly.

- Movement: the Sellita SW210-1b is manually wound, so the watch must be wound by hand, and its 48-hour reserve means regular winding is needed if you do not wear it daily.

Readers interested in the technique itself will find the most direct story in the collaboration, not in the watch specification.
