What changed in the 2023 Daytona collection?
Rolex presented the 2023 update as a revision of the Daytona range for the model’s 60th anniversary, with changes to the case, dial and movement. The refresh introduced calibre 4131. The transparent case back, however, was a specific feature of the platinum watch: Rolex described it as a first for the Oyster Perpetual collection. Rolex’s 2023 launch brochure says the platinum model’s 18 ct yellow gold oscillating weight can be seen through the back.
Which Daytona has a transparent case back?
The model to identify is the Cosmograph Daytona Oyster, 40 mm, platinum, reference 126506. Rolex’s current US product page lists an ice-blue dial, chestnut-brown Cerachrom bezel, Oyster bracelet and transparent case back with anti-reflective coating. Rolex’s collection page scopes the feature to certain platinum versions; it is not a standard feature of the entire Daytona collection. What can you see through the back?
The sapphire crystal, treated with an anti-reflective coating, exposes calibre 4131, Rolex’s self-winding mechanical chronograph movement. Its cut-out oscillating weight is made from 18 ct yellow gold. Rolex lists an approximately 72-hour power reserve. These are manufacturer specifications; they do not describe independent testing. Rolex’s movement information describes calibre 4131.

How the platinum 126506 differs from other Daytonas
Material and configuration matter when comparing models. Rolex’s US catalog lists the Oystersteel 126500LN with a conventional screw-down case back, while the platinum 126506 has the transparent back. Do not infer that a pictured Daytona has a display back from the collection name alone; check the exact reference and dial configuration. Reference 126506 is offered with ice-blue dial configurations, including one with diamond-set markers. Rolex’s US listing for the Oystersteel 126500LN provides a useful contrast.
