The M.A.D.Editions M.A.D.1S keeps the line’s rotating peripheral time display but pares it back to one hour cylinder, lowers the case to 15 mm and replaces the earlier Miyota movement with a Swiss-made La Joux-Perret G101. It is the fifth M.A.D.Editions release, introduced at Geneva Watch Days 2024. The change makes the watch slimmer than earlier M.A.D.1 editions, but not conventionally thin: its 42 mm steel case remains a substantial, distinctly mechanical design.
What is the M.A.D.1S?
MB&F introduced the M.A.D.Editions line in June 2021 as a more accessible way to engage with its mechanical-art aesthetic. The M.A.D.1S is the fifth edition, following four M.A.D.1 models. It retains the collection’s signature peripheral cylinder display, which presents time around the outside of the dial rather than with conventional central hands. MB&F’s M.A.D.1S page describes the update and the single-cylinder display; the brand’s M.A.D.Editions history places it in the wider collection.

The slimmer profile comes with a display trade-off: the M.A.D.1S shows hours on its cylinder rather than using distinct hour and minute cylinders. MB&F attributes the reduced height to the thinner movement and the single-cylinder arrangement. The new G101 also marks a change from the Miyota used in previous editions; the available specifications do not support broader conclusions about accuracy, reliability, servicing or comfort. Which M.A.D.1S editions were available?
MB&F distinguishes the two accent-color editions by access route: purple was reserved for Friends (suppliers) and Tribe members (MB&F collectors), while the ice-blue version was released to the public. The public allocation was handled through raffles. MB&F’s edition and raffle information is the place to check for any current notices; raffle windows and availability can change, so the historical release details do not establish present inventory.

MB&F also warns about scammers and identifies an official M.A.D.Editions Instagram page on its site. Use the official brand information to verify any purported raffle or sales channel rather than relying on an unsolicited message.

Monochrome Watches’ Brice Goulard reported a launch price of CHF 2,900 excluding taxes on 27 August 2024. The publication also reported that the raffle drawing was supervised by a bailiff.
