What the 101 Chain is
The 101 Chain sits between a fine mechanical watch and a high-jewellery bangle. Its 18K pink-gold structure is crossed by diagonal bands of brilliant-cut white diamonds and black HyCeram. A black lacquered dial, JL monogram and diamond-set surround form the watch display within the sculptural bracelet.

The defining technical feature is the hand-wound Calibre 101. It displays hours and minutes and measures 14 mm by 4.8 mm by 3.4 mm. The published specifications list a 33-hour power reserve, a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and 19 jewels.

Jaeger-LeCoultre dates the launch of Calibre 101 to 1929 and describes it as the oldest calibre continuously produced by the Manufacture-Atelier. The company also says the movement remains the world’s smallest mechanical calibre. That claim concerns the calibre itself; it does not mean the 101 Chain is the smallest complete watch in every dimension.
The 1955 Duoplan Chain connection
The new bangle has a direct historical reference: Jaeger-LeCoultre’s 1955 Duoplan Chain, an 18K pink-gold linked bracelet watch using the original Duoplan Calibre 403. The vintage piece contained 73.92 grams of 18K pink gold.

The dates surrounding Duoplan require a precise distinction. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s official history dates the movement’s introduction to 1924, while the specialist launch report describes the Duoplan as invented and patented in 1925. Calibre 101 followed in 1929, making the 101 Chain a continuation of two separate early movements rather than a simple reissue of the 1955 watch.
What wearing and owning it involves
Manual winding
The Calibre 101 is manually wound, so the owner periodically winds the watch rather than relying on an automatic rotor or a battery. Its 33-hour reserve means it may stop if it is left unwound for longer than roughly a day and a third.

Jewellery-led construction
The diagonal diamond and black HyCeram treatment makes the bracelet the primary visual element. This is a high-jewellery object with a time display, not a conventional round watch fitted to a standard strap or articulated metal bracelet.
Servicing and availability
A movement that takes about 40 hours to assemble by hand requires specialist manufacture-level care. The launch material does not state a water-resistance rating, service interval or lifetime production total, so those details should be confirmed with an authorised Jaeger-LeCoultre boutique.

The price is available on request. Hodinkee reports that only a few dozen pieces are made each year, indicating deliberately limited production rather than a regular-stock jewellery model.
Jaeger-LeCoultre states that the relevant Collectibles timepieces are available worldwide through jaeger-lecoultre.com from 13 October 2026, with availability at its Hong Kong boutique during the exhibition period. Why the 101 Chain matters
The 101 Chain is significant because its jewellery design and movement history are inseparable. The pink-gold bangle and diamond setting update the 1955 Duoplan Chain, while the tiny manually wound calibre preserves a lineage that began in the 1920s and continues in current production. Its appeal is therefore less about conventional watch specifications than about miniature mechanical engineering integrated into a scarce, wearable jewel.
