Seiko’s four 2023 Astron GPS Solar sport-design watches share the 3X62 GPS Solar movement, a 41.2 mm titanium case, and GPS-controlled time and time-zone adjustment. Their differences are visual and production-related: SSJ013 has a blue dial, SSJ014 a gray dial with a rose-gold-colored bezel, SSJ015 a black dial and black coating, and SSJ017 a striped gray dial and a launch-announced limited run of 1,500 pieces.
What the four Astron references have in common
Seiko announced SSJ013, SSJ014, SSJ015 and SSJ017 on May 9, 2023. The first three joined the main collection; SSJ017 was announced as a limited edition of 1,500 pieces. Seiko expected all four to reach select retailers nationwide in summer 2023. That launch announcement does not establish present stock or current availability.
Each uses Seiko’s 3X62 GPS Solar caliber. Seiko specifies GPS-controlled time and time-zone adjustment, high-speed time-zone adjustment, a perpetual calendar correct to 2100, reception-result indication and a power-save function. The release gives accuracy of ±15 seconds per month when the watch is not receiving GPS, measured within a temperature range of 5°C to 35°C.
The shared stated dimensions and materials are a 41.2 mm titanium case, 12.0 mm thickness, titanium bracelet, super-hard coating, sapphire crystal with super-clear coating, and 10-bar water resistance. These are compact proportions for a GPS-equipped watch, but the case diameter alone does not determine how a watch will sit on a particular wrist.

| SSJ014 | Gray dial with a quartz-crystal-inspired pattern; rose-gold-colored coated titanium bezel. | Main collection. | May 2023 recommended price: $2,100. Seiko’s US lineup displayed $2,300 at the research date, October 8, 2026. |
| SSJ015 | Black dial with a quartz-crystal-inspired pattern; black super-hard coating. | Main collection. | May 2023 recommended price: $2,200. Seiko’s US lineup and SSJ015 product page displayed $2,400 at the research date, October 8, 2026. |
| SSJ017 | Dial with horizontal stripes in alternating gray shades. | Limited edition announced at 1,500 pieces. | May 2023 recommended price: $2,000. A current US price was not stated on the pages checked at the research date, October 8, 2026. |
The launch prices are Seiko’s recommended US prices published in May 2023, not current universal prices or guaranteed retailer transaction prices. The later figures are displayed US prices, not a statement of worldwide pricing or continuing availability. Seiko’s announcement described the patterned blue, gray and black dials as inspired by quartz crystals associated with the tuning-fork-shaped oscillators of the original Quartz Astron; SSJ017 uses the distinct horizontal-stripe treatment instead.
How the GPS Solar time-zone adjustment works
The 3X62 receives GPS signals to control time and time-zone adjustment, while the watch’s solar system generates energy from light. Seiko’s broader Astron US description presents adjustment at the touch of a button. The 2023 release cautions that if the region, time zone or daylight-saving time changes, manual selection may be required; GPS adjustment should not be read as a guarantee that every civil-time change is selected automatically.

On the SSJ015 product page, Seiko lists automatic and manual time adjustment, satellite-acquisition status, reception-result display, flight mode to prevent GPS reception, automatic hand-position alignment and a date display. That page estimates approximately six months of operation when fully charged and approximately two years in power-save mode. Those runtime figures and detailed functions are specifically attributed to SSJ015’s current US product listing, rather than treated as independently verified for every reference.
Why Seiko says the case can be relatively compact
GPS reception places design constraints on a watch: reducing case size narrows the space between the antenna and bezel, which can complicate antenna performance. Seiko’s technical history says the 3X62 combines a dielectric antenna with a flat antenna to improve directionality and signal capture, enabling a small-diameter model with a metal bezel. This is Seiko’s explanation of its engineering approach, not an independent reception comparison.

Seiko also describes the cases as using hairline finishing on top and polished sides, with faceted bezels. It attributes the watches’ wearable feel to titanium’s light weight and the case’s low center of gravity; that comfort description is the manufacturer’s, not a hands-on fit assessment.

In its May 9, 2023 announcement, Seiko described Astron GPS Solar as a watch that connects to GPS, adjusts to time zones, and generates the energy it needs from light alone. The release’s qualification matters: changes in region, time zone or daylight-saving time may require manual selection.
Seiko’s May 2023 recommended US prices were $2,000 for SSJ017, $2,100 for SSJ014, and $2,200 for SSJ013 and SSJ015. By October 8, 2026, the displayed US lineup prices were $2,200 for SSJ013, $2,300 for SSJ014 and $2,400 for SSJ015. The current US pages cited here do not establish a present SSJ017 price or whether any of the four can still be purchased.
