Seiko Japan announced the SLA073JC on July 18, 2023, at a Japan price of ¥385,000 including tax. That is the published price at announcement—not a verified current price or a quote for other markets.
What is the Seiko SLA073?
Seiko’s Japanese announcement names the watch the Prospex Diver’s 1968 Heritage SLA073JC and presents it as a cave-diving-inspired special edition. A European Seiko Boutique product result identifies a related regional reference, SLA073J1, as an automatic 200 m Prospex diver and a modern reinterpretation of the 1968 watch. These suffixes reflect the references used in those regional sources; the available information does not establish that every market uses the same suffix.
The European result provides only those limited details, so it should not be treated as a complete specification sheet. Seiko Japan’s announcement confirms the design concept and regional release information, but does not supply a full technical specification list for the watch.
What is different about the SLA073’s design?
A dial based on an underwater cave
Seiko says the dial’s pattern and graduated color are meant to evoke an underwater cave illuminated by a diver’s lamp. The concept gives this edition a visual theme tied to diving rather than simply repeating the appearance of the 1968 original.

Revised bezel and crown details
Seiko’s announcement says the 1968 Heritage base form has a revised rotating bezel and revised knurling on the crown at 4 o’clock, with operability as the design consideration. The brand also describes different LumiBrite emission colors for the minute hand and bezel, intended to help distinguish dive-time indications. Those are Seiko’s stated design aims, not independently tested performance findings.
How much does the Seiko SLA073 cost?
Seiko Japan listed the SLA073JC at ¥385,000 including tax in its July 18, 2023 announcement. The announcement said the edition was offered through Seiko’s Japanese online store and boutiques. This is a dated, Japan-specific announcement price; it does not establish current stock, a current retail price, or pricing in another country. Check the local Seiko boutique or an authorized retailer for a current quote, and confirm the regional reference suffix before comparing offers.

What does “1968 Diver” mean?
The heritage refers to a historical Seiko diver introduced in 1968, not to specifications that can automatically be assigned to the SLA073. Seiko’s official history says the original had a 10-beat high-frequency movement and a one-piece case rated to 300 m water resistance. Seiko also says Japanese mountaineers Naomi Uemura and Teruo Matsuura carried that historical model on their 1970 Mount Everest ascent.
Those details explain the legacy behind the name; they are not evidence that the SLA073 uses the same movement or has a 300 m rating. The European boutique result describes the SLA073J1 as a 200 m diver, while the Japanese announcement does not provide a full technical specification sheet.

Where was it offered, and what should buyers verify?
Seiko’s 2023 announcement identifies Japanese Seiko boutiques and the Japanese online store as sales channels for the SLA073JC. That historical channel information does not confirm present availability. The European boutique result’s SLA073J1 reference indicates a regional listing, but the available product details are limited.
