Jacob & Co. has revived the musical-watch concept that helped define its modern identity. The 2026 Godfather II is a limited mechanical watch that can play two Nino Rota melodies from The Godfather Part II. Complex reports a listed retail price of $440,000 and an edition of 74 pieces, a reference to the film’s 1974 theatrical release.
What the Godfather II watch is
The Godfather II is a sequel in both theme and engineering. Rather than using electronic audio, it contains a mechanical music system inside a luxury wristwatch. Jacob Arabo said the movement took three years to develop because the company wanted it to play two melodies while remaining wearable.

Arabo described the design as a “refined, 1930s-inspired case.” The available announcement does not state the case diameter, movement caliber, power reserve or exact method used to select or trigger each melody. Those specifications should not be inferred from the earlier watch.

The 74-piece production is a deliberate film reference: The Godfather Part II was released theatrically in 1974. Complex listed the retail price at $440,000 in 2026. That is a stated list price, not an independently verified transaction price or a guarantee of availability.

Which Jacob & Co. watch plays The Godfather music?
There are two distinct answers. The original is the Opera Godfather, created with Paramount Pictures as a music-playing tribute to the first film. The new answer is the Godfather II, which carries the concept into a sequel-themed watch and adds a two-melody format.
The Opera Godfather: the watch that established the idea
The Opera Godfather made the musical complication highly visible. Its 49 mm case combines film imagery with an elaborate animated-looking tableau: a miniature Don Vito Corleone sculpture, puppeteer strings and a crank shaped like a piano and violin.

How the musical complication works
At its simplest, a musical watch combines a conventional mechanical timekeeping movement with a separate mechanism that stores and releases a tune. The sound is produced mechanically inside the case; there is no electronic speaker or recorded soundtrack in the concept described here.
The Opera Godfather demonstrates the format with a hand-wound movement and a dedicated melody mechanism. Its piano-and-violin-shaped crank is part of the watch’s visible operating language, while the mechanism is specified to play for roughly 30 seconds. The supplied specifications do not identify the exact activation sequence, musical cylinder or sound-producing components, so detailed diagrams should not be assumed.

The Godfather II’s important change is musical rather than merely cosmetic: it is reported to play two melodies. Arabo’s explanation links the three-year development directly to fitting that dual-melody capability into a case intended to be wearable. The announcement does not establish whether the two tunes are selected by a switch, separate trigger or another control.

The Opera Godfather helped make musical complications central to Jacob & Co.’s public identity by joining a mechanical music box with instantly recognizable cinema imagery. The sequel keeps that identity but changes the emphasis. A 1930s-inspired case and the effort to make the watch wearable address the practical challenge created by the original’s 49 mm, highly ornamented presentation.

The Godfather II is therefore not simply a smaller reissue. It is a new movement project built around two melodies and a different case language, while retaining the literal mechanical “noise” that made the first watch distinctive.
Price, scarcity and what is not yet established
At $440,000, the Godfather II sits in the ultra-limited haute horlogerie category. Its 74-piece run is larger than the 50-piece Opera Godfather 50th Anniversary edition, but it remains a very small production. The stated price and quantity come from the 2026 announcement; taxes, regional pricing, delivery timing and final allocation are not stated.
No independent performance, sound-quality or ownership test is established here. Buyers should distinguish Jacob & Co.’s published specifications and Complex’s launch reporting from measurements of volume, tune duration, accuracy, service intervals or long-term reliability.
The Bottom Line
The Godfather II revives Jacob & Co.’s signature mechanical music-watch idea with two film melodies, a more restrained wearable design and a 74-piece, $440,000 edition. The Opera Godfather remains the larger, more theatrical origin point, with the published JCFM04 specifications providing the clearest technical record of the original platform.
