The watch was presented to racing driver Victor “Quick Vic” Elford after his 1968 24 Hours of Daytona victory and carries a published estimate of $100,000–$200,000.
What watch is Jerry Seinfeld selling?
The lot is a stainless-steel Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, reference 6239. It is associated with Seinfeld because he bought it in 2014, at the same auction where he acquired the Porsche 907 driven by Victor Elford in the 1968 24 Hours of Daytona.

The watch’s earlier owner was Elford, the British driver known as “Quick Vic.” Its presentation after the 1968 race gives the Daytona a direct connection to the event that inspired the model’s name.

Why the Victor Elford provenance matters
The watch is described in published auction coverage as the first documented Rolex Daytona awarded to a winner of the 24 Hours of Daytona. One account uses the broader wording “the first known Daytona ever awarded to the winner of an automotive race.” Those descriptions refer to the documented history of this specific watch, not to every Daytona ever associated with motorsport.

For collectors, the distinction is important. A vintage Daytona with a traceable chain of custody from a race winner is evaluated differently from an otherwise identical reference 6239 with no documented presentation story. The provenance links the watch to a particular driver, race and year rather than relying only on celebrity ownership.
A documented chain of custody
| Year | Documented event |
|---|---|
| 1968 | Victor Elford receives the Rolex after winning the 24 Hours of Daytona. |
| 2005 | A Rolex service invoice records work under Elford’s name. |
| 2010 | A Rolex U.S.A. letter confirms the presentation history. |
| 2014 | Seinfeld acquires the watch at auction while also buying the Porsche 907 he drove. |
| 2026 | Phillips schedules the watch for The New York Watch Auction: XV. |
The reported accompanying material includes Elford’s signed provenance letter, the 2010 Rolex U.S.A. confirmation, the 2005 service invoice, and a period presentation box. Together, these records provide more than a celebrity association: they support the watch’s earlier ownership and presentation history.

Condition and restoration work
The watch has undergone work intended to return it toward its race-day appearance. Reported restoration details include color-matched hands, a period-correct Tropic 21 crystal and repair of a bracelet rivet.
That work is relevant to bidding because originality and restoration are separate factors. The repairs may improve visual coherence and wearability, while collectors will still want to assess which components are original, which were repaired and how the work affects the watch’s condition category. The auction estimate does not guarantee that every bidder will value those interventions in the same way.

When and where it will be sold
Auction details
- Auction: Phillips’ The New York Watch Auction: XV
- Location: New York
- Dates: December 5–6, 2026
- Published estimate: $100,000–$200,000
The $100,000–$200,000 figure is an estimate, not a realized price. The final hammer price, buyer and any post-sale ownership or charitable details are not established before the December sale.
How the estimate compares with famous Daytona results
A useful market landmark is Paul Newman’s own Daytona Ref. 6239, which sold for $17.75 million at Phillips in 2017. The auction house described that result as the highest price achieved by a vintage wristwatch at auction at the time.
That sale is not a forecast for Seinfeld’s watch. Newman’s lot combined exceptional celebrity history, a different ownership narrative and intense bidding at a record-setting event. The Elford Daytona’s case rests primarily on documented motorsport presentation provenance, its reference and condition, and the strength of its supporting records.
What collectors should examine in the lot
- Provenance: Whether the Elford presentation and subsequent ownership chain are supported by the supplied letters, invoice and box.
- Reference and originality: How the Ref. 6239’s components, dial, hands, crystal and bracelet compare with period specifications.
- Restoration extent: Which parts were color-matched, repaired or replaced, and how that work is described in the condition report.
- Race connection: The relationship between Elford, the 1968 24 Hours of Daytona and the Porsche 907.
- Estimate versus result: Whether bidding ultimately stays within, exceeds or falls below the published $100,000–$200,000 range.
What is not known yet
Because the auction is scheduled for December 5–6, 2026, no authoritative hammer price or buyer can be reported yet. The watch is therefore an announced auction offering rather than a completed sale. Its significance can be assessed from the documented Elford provenance and supporting Rolex records, but its market value will not be established until bidding concludes.
