Mido has upgraded its Multifort TV Big Date with a COSC-certified movement and a more elaborate dial, creating the Multifort TV Big Date Chronometer. The 40 mm steel watch keeps the collection’s big date, 100-meter water resistance and integrated-style H-link bracelet, while its stamped checkerboard pattern and applied indices make the resemblance to high-end luxury sports watches more pronounced. Mido lists the Swiss price at CHF 1,350; U.S. pricing and release timing should be confirmed with the regional Mido site or an authorized retailer.
What Mido changed
The original Multifort TV Big Date became a standout in Mido’s affordable Swatch Group range because it combined a distinctive TV-shaped case, a two-wheel big-date display and specifications unusual at its price. The Chronometer version leaves that basic formula intact but adds a regulated, independently certified movement and a substantially revised dial.

COSC-certified accuracy
Its Calibre 80 automatic movement is COSC-certified. Gear Patrol reports a guaranteed rate of -4/+6 seconds per day, the chronometer standard stated for this watch. Mido says COSC testing lasts 15 days, uses five positions and exposes the movement to different temperatures under an independent Swiss certification process. Certification describes the tested movement’s performance; actual daily results can still vary with winding, position and wear.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe same long-running power system
The movement retains an 80-hour power reserve, so the watch can sit through a weekend and continue running when fully wound. Its Nivachron balance spring is designed to reduce the effects of magnetism, shocks and temperature variation. Mido describes the calibre as its ETA-based Calibre 80 automatic platform; the Chronometer designation is the new specification distinction.

A dial designed to emphasize the luxury-sports influence
The most visible update is the dial. Smaller dot indices are replaced by larger, faceted applied bars. The big date remains at 12 o’clock but now sits in a matching metal frame, giving the display a more integrated appearance. Mido also moves the minute track onto the inner rehaut.
Across the dial, a deeply stamped checkerboard pattern receives a sunray finish. The texture recalls the tapisserie pattern associated with Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak and the grenade-like surface used on the Patek Philippe Aquanaut, which explains why the new watch reads as a more deliberate affordable Aquanaut-style alternative than the earlier model. It is not a collaboration with Patek Philippe and does not reproduce the Aquanaut’s case, movement or finishing.

The 40 mm by 39.2 mm footprint is broad enough to deliver the integrated-bracelet sports-watch stance without reaching oversized dimensions on paper. Wrist fit will depend on the shortness of the case, lug geometry and bracelet articulation, so buyers should check the full case profile and try the watch on if their wrist is particularly small.

The retained H-link bracelet uses polished center links and has a look that Gear Patrol compares with the Patek Nautilus. That bracelet, the square-rounded case and the dial texture create the watch’s visual identity; the 100-meter rating makes it suitable for ordinary swimming and daily wear when the crown and seals are properly maintained, but it is not a specialist dive watch.

How it compares with the original Multifort TV Big Date
| Area | Earlier Multifort TV Big Date | Big Date Chronometer |
|---|---|---|
| Movement certification | Not identified as COSC-certified in the launch coverage | COSC-certified Calibre 80 |
| Stated accuracy | Not stated | -4/+6 seconds per day |
| Dial indices | Smaller dot indices | Applied faceted bar indices |
| Big-date treatment | Big date at 12 o’clock | Big date at 12 o’clock with a matching metal frame |
| Surface pattern | Earlier dial design | Stamped checkerboard with sunray finish |
| Bracelet and water resistance | Multifort TV-style H-link bracelet; 100 m stated for the collection | H-link bracelet with polished center links; 100 m |
The upgrade is therefore concentrated in regulation and presentation rather than a new complication. If you already own the standard model, the Chronometer makes the strongest case through certified precision and the more sculpted dial, not through a different case size or a longer reserve.
Price and availability
Mido’s official Swiss price is CHF 1,350. Gear Patrol reported that Mido’s launch material did not establish a release timetable or confirmed U.S. price; a reported $1,650 U.S. suggested retail price was treated as unconfirmed. Currency conversion, taxes and regional pricing can change the final amount, so U.S. buyers should wait for a local listing rather than infer a definitive dollar price from the Swiss figure.

Who should consider it?
- Choose it for certified precision: COSC testing and the stated -4/+6 seconds-per-day tolerance are the central mechanical reasons to pay more than for a non-chronometer version.
- Choose it for the design: The checkerboard/sunray dial, framed big date and faceted indices intensify the luxury-sports-watch aesthetic while remaining recognizably Mido.
- Check alternatives if size is critical: The 40 mm by 39.2 mm case is not small, and the integrated-style bracelet can make the watch wear broader than a conventional round case of similar diameter.
- Verify regional stock: Availability, launch date and U.S. pricing were not confirmed in the initial coverage.
The Bottom Line
The Multifort TV Big Date Chronometer is a focused upgrade: COSC-certified accuracy, an 80-hour Nivachron-equipped movement and a richer checkerboard dial in the same 40 mm, 100-meter sports-watch format. At CHF 1,350 in Switzerland, it offers a credible way to get the big-date, integrated-bracelet look without claiming to be the luxury watch that inspired it.
