How is Kevin Pietersen involved in rhino conservation?
Pietersen, the former England cricketer, described himself as the founder of SORAI in a 2019 WatchTime India interview. He said he started the initiative to raise awareness for rhinos and discussed related conservation activity. The name is given there as Save Our Rhino Africa India.
A 2019 The Hour Glass feature framed the watch partnership as a way to draw attention to rhino conservation, with comments from Pietersen and Hublot CEO Ricardo Guadalupe. It is a retailer’s partnership feature, not an independent assessment of conservation impact.
What is the Hublot Big Bang Unico SORAI?
According to WatchTime India’s 17 May 2021 report, Hublot and SORAI’s first Big Bang UNICO SORAI was released in 2019. The follow-up, announced in 2021, was limited to 100 pieces. The report connected its green color scheme to the South African bush in summer.

These are specifications as reported by WatchTime India for that 2021 edition; they are not a confirmation of current product listings, stock or later SORAI models.
How was the watch linked to conservation?
WatchTime India reported that part of the 2021 edition’s proceeds would be donated to Care for Wild, a rhino sanctuary. Esquire Middle East also described a portion of proceeds going to the sanctuary. Neither account specifies the sum or establishes that a particular transfer was completed. The commitment is therefore best understood as a reported arrangement for that release, not proof of funds delivered or animals saved.

Guadalupe’s rationale for the collaboration, quoted in WatchTime India’s 2021 report, was: “It is our duty to amplify the voices of those who work on the ground to protect endangered species, particularly the African rhino which is in critical danger of extinction.” That describes Hublot’s stated intent; it does not measure the partnership’s effect.

The available coverage documents an awareness-focused partnership and a proceeds commitment for the 2021 watch. It does not provide independently verified current conservation results attributable to SORAI or to sales of the Big Bang UNICO SORAI. A historical population figure quoted in partnership coverage should not be treated as a current rhino count: The Hour Glass feature attributes the statement “There are around 28,000 rhinos remaining worldwide, 23 times fewer than there are African elephants!” to Pietersen, but does not establish its original statistical source or date.
