Le Forban Sécurité Mer presents the Marseillaise as a tribute to its Monnin model from 1979. According to the brand, French watchmaker Georges Monnin assembled the original Monnin case for Heuer. That is Le Forban’s account of the design’s history, rather than independently verified provenance. Those are the manufacturer’s comparisons, not independent measurements of the vintage watch. Le Forban also says the revised case curves are intended to improve ergonomics; whether that translates into a comfortable fit depends on the wearer.

How to interpret its water-resistance rating
Le Forban lists 250 m water resistance and describes the watch as suitable for water sports and diving to 150 m. The company calls it a “true diving watch” in its English product listing. These are the maker’s claims and guidance; the listing does not name a certification, and the available evidence does not establish independent dive validation. A depth rating should not be treated as a personal dive test or a guarantee of performance in every condition.
The screw-down crown and unidirectional bezel are practical dive-watch features. Le Forban’s official user guide explains that the bezel can help calculate immersion time: align its marker with the departure or arrival time, as appropriate. Follow the complete manufacturer instructions, and do not rely on a watch alone for dive planning or timing.

The supplied Dive Bund® strap is made from FKM rubber and has a removable central pad. Removing the pad changes the look and removes the additional layer beneath the case. Le Forban also lists a Dive Bund strap, a rubber NATO strap and a steel mesh strap as accessory options on its French product page.

The watch has 20 mm lugs, but that measurement alone does not confirm that a generic strap will work with the watch’s attachment or buckle. Check compatibility with Le Forban or the strap maker before buying a third-party replacement.
Fit: what the dimensions tell you
The 40.8 mm diameter is only part of the fit picture. At 46 mm lug-to-lug, the watch’s length across the wrist is also relevant; its listed thickness is 11.95 mm with the crystal. Compare all three measurements with a watch you already find comfortable, and consider the 20 mm strap width if you want to change straps. Dimensions cannot guarantee comfort, and the brand’s ergonomics claim has not been independently assessed.

- If the automatic watch has stopped or has not been used, unscrew the crown fully and turn it clockwise 20 to 30 times to wind it manually.
- Avoid setting the date when the displayed time is between 11:00 and 1:00; the manufacturer warns that doing so could damage the mechanism.

Is the Le Forban Marseillaise worth considering?
Its case dimensions, sapphire crystal, screw-down crown, automatic Sellita movement and Bund-style FKM strap give the Marseillaise a specific appeal: a compact, heritage-led design with a distinctive strap rather than a generic-looking diver. The key qualification is evidence. The specifications and design rationale come from the manufacturer; independent accuracy, lume, comfort and dive-performance testing are not established here. Whether it suits you comes down to the fit, the appeal of its design and strap, and your confidence in the maker’s stated specifications and purchase terms.
