The Lederer 3 Times Certified Observatory Chronometer, reference 9012-COC, is an eight-piece limited edition in the brand’s Central Impulse Chronometer collection. “Triple certified” refers to testing and certification at three observatories—Besançon, Glashütte and Geneva—after the movement had already received COSC certification. The maker describes that sequence; it does not establish that the four institutions used identical protocols.
What does “triple certified” mean?
Lederer says the 9012-COC’s Central Impulse Chronometer movement first received chronometer certification from COSC, then underwent testing and certification at three additional institutions: the Observatory in Besançon, France; the Observatory in Glashütte, Germany; and the “Observatory Chronométrique” in Geneva, Switzerland. In the maker’s description, “triple” refers to those three observatory certifications, alongside the earlier COSC certification. Lederer’s product description does not detail the protocols or acceptance limits used by each institution, so the certifications should not be treated as interchangeable measures. The GPHG listing names the model and identifies COSC in its certification field.
How accurate is the 9012-COC?
In a 2024 report, Fratello says all eight watches were tested over six months at four institutions after COSC. It reports a maximum daily deviation of +0.5 seconds across five positions and an average deviation of +0.18 seconds per day. These are figures reported by Fratello’s account of the results; the cited GPHG product entry does not publish the underlying detailed results. The available figures do not specify enough about conditions and individual institutional protocols to make a like-for-like comparison with another watch’s rate claim.

Movement and design
Lederer places the watch in its Central Impulse Chronometer line and says it shaped two bridges to make room for the signatures of the three observatory certificates. The maker presents those signatures as part of the watch’s chronometry-focused design. The published basic movement specification is manual winding, a 40-hour power reserve and a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour; further architectural detail is not established by the cited product listing.
The listed solid-silver dial has a frosted finish, and the watch comes on a leather strap with a pin buckle. The 44 mm steel case and 30 m water-resistance rating are also stated in the GPHG entry.

How it fits into the Central Impulse Chronometer line
Phillips’ 2024 editorial discusses the model in relation to Bernhard Lederer’s earlier Central Impulse Chronometer and the historical links among the term “chronometer,” formal certification and chronometer-type escapements. That is historical context, not evidence that the term has one universal legal meaning in every jurisdiction. Phillips’ account addresses that background.
A later Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie entry covers the CIC Longitude, a different follow-on model with a 39 mm case and a different reference and movement.
