The Longines Flagship Heritage L4.795.4.78.2 is a 38.50 mm stainless-steel automatic watch with an ivory dial, date and small seconds. Its restrained proportions and late-1950s-inspired design give it a dress-watch character; the 47 mm lug-to-lug measurement provides more useful fit context than diameter alone. Longines lists up to 50 hours of power reserve and 3 bar water resistance, so this is best considered a dress-oriented everyday watch, not a swimming or diving watch.
What the L4.795.4.78.2 offers
This reference pairs a stainless-steel case with an opaline ivory dial, a brown alligator strap and a mechanical self-winding movement. The display includes hours, minutes, small seconds at 6 o’clock and a date. Longines specifies a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on its underside, plus Swiss Super-LumiNova on the dial.

The official US product page lists the movement at 28,800 vibrations per hour and gives a power reserve of up to 50 hours. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements of accuracy or real-world running time. Jacques Tissot SA identifies the caliber as L615.
Case size and wrist fit
Longines gives the case diameter as 38.50 mm. Jacques Tissot SA lists the watch at 47.00 mm lug-to-lug, 10.30 mm thick, with a 19 mm lug distance and a weight of 54.7 g. Together, those measurements suggest a relatively compact profile on paper, but fit still depends on wrist shape and personal preference; try it on if possible.

- Stainless steel with triple safety folding clasp and push-piece opening mechanism
- 5 Year International Warranty
The 19 mm lug distance is useful to know when considering another strap, but replacement-strap compatibility and current strap availability have not been established here. The reference is listed with a brown alligator strap and buckle.
How the design connects to the Flagship name
Longines describes Flagship as one of its first collections and an emblematic line since the late 1950s. The name refers to the commander-in-chief’s ship in a fleet. On this watch, the screw-down caseback carries a hand-painted enamel caravel on an 18-karat gold medallion.

In a hands-on review published March 18, 2014, Fratello’s Robert-Jan Broer described the dial as cream-colored and noted its gilt markers and dauphine hands. He compared the modern watch’s appearance with vintage Flagship examples he examined, while observing that its 38.5 mm diameter looked large beside those small vintage gold watches but modest on his wrist. That is one reviewer’s dated comparison, not evidence that this modern reference is identical to a vintage model or uses a historic movement.
Water resistance and everyday use
Longines rates the watch to 3 bar. That is the stated water-resistance rating; the available specifications do not establish it as suitable for swimming or diving. For activity-specific advice and care, check Longines’ current guidance rather than treating the rating as a promise of suitability for water sports.

Price and warranty depend on market
When checked on October 8, 2026, Longines’ US product page displayed a price of $2,150 and stated a five-year warranty. Jacques Tissot SA’s Swiss listing displayed CHF 1,750; that is a retailer’s Swiss-market price, not a global price. Both prices and availability can change, so confirm the exact ivory-dial configuration and current terms with the seller for your market.
Fratello reported a Longines list price of €1,190 including 21% VAT in the Netherlands in its March 18, 2014 review. That figure is historical and should not be used as a current price. Warranty terms may vary by market and eligibility, so verify the conditions that apply to your purchase.

Verdict
The L4.795.4.78.2 makes sense for someone who wants a compact, traditional-looking automatic with small seconds, a date and a clearly signaled connection to Longines’ Flagship history. Its 47 mm lug-to-lug measurement, sapphire crystal and up-to-50-hour stated reserve make the specification more informative than a diameter-only description. The main practical limits are its modest 3 bar rating and the need to verify local pricing, warranty terms and exact configuration before buying.
