The Longines Heritage Military COSD is a 40 mm, automatic Heritage watch whose appeal rests as much on its military-inspired design as on its practical, restrained format. Longines says the modern watch takes inspiration from a design created for British paratroopers in the 1940s. Published reviews describe it as comfortable and easy to wear, though visually plain without that history. Its commonly reported specifications come from period secondary coverage, so check the exact reference and condition before buying.
What is the Longines Heritage Military COSD?
The COSD is the 2015-era Longines Heritage Military model in the L2.832.4 reference family. In a 16 May 2016 release, Longines described it as a reissue inspired by the sober design of a watch created for British paratroopers in the 1940s. The brand singled out the NATO strap and broad arrow—an emblem it says was used on military equipment—as defining visual details. Longines’ announcement establishes the company’s design story, but does not document every detail of the original watch’s procurement or settle what the acronym COSD stands for.

Some secondary descriptions expand COSD as “Combined Operations Stores Depot,” but the Longines release does not give that expansion. Treat it as unconfirmed unless a listing provides stronger historical documentation.
Longines Heritage Military COSD specifications

These specifications and options are from WorldWatchReview’s 2015 coverage. The article also describes Arabic numerals and 12/24-hour styling. Confirm the dial, red 24-hour scale, strap, buckle and exact suffix from photographs and documentation; configuration details should not be inferred from the COSD name alone.
How does the COSD wear and look?
In its 2016 “Week On The Wrist” article, Hodinkee’s reviewer called the COSD comfortable and easy to wear, while finding it plain when viewed without its historical background. That is one reviewer’s impression, not a guarantee of fit for every wrist or a controlled comparison. The understated dial and broad-arrow detail give the watch a purposeful military character rather than a decorative or elaborate one. Read Hodinkee’s review.

Which COSD configuration should you look for?
Dial and legibility
Period coverage identifies matte-black and opaline/white dials. Compare the actual dial and hands, including lume condition and the presence of the red 24-hour scale, rather than relying on a seller’s generic description.
Strap and completeness
The reported options include a khaki NATO strap and black alligator leather. Check whether the strap and steel buckle are original or replacement parts, and inspect spring bars and wear. A replaced strap need not make a watch unsuitable, but it affects originality and should be reflected in the listing’s description.

Reference and authenticity
Check the complete reference suffix and serial details against the watch’s documentation. Have authenticity assessed by a qualified seller or watchmaker; the model name alone does not authenticate an individual example.
Mechanical condition
Ask for service records and assess winding, date operation and timekeeping. The published specifications do not establish the present condition of any particular watch, and the reviews cited here provide no independent accuracy measurement or tested power-reserve result. Treat water resistance as unverified unless the individual watch has been tested; a historical 30 m specification is not evidence of current sealing.

- Automatic L888 movement, hours, minutes, seconds and date. Transparent case back with sapphire crystal
- Brown Alligator strap with triple safety folding clasp and push-piece opening mechanism

Is the Longines Heritage Military COSD still available, and what does it cost?
Current availability of the COSD and a reliable current market valuation are not established by the sources cited here. WorldWatchReview reported a €1,380 manufacturer’s suggested retail price for the NATO version in its 2015 article; Hodinkee listed $1,700 in 2016. Those are historical figures from different sources, dates, currencies and potentially different configurations—not present-day price guidance.
Do not confuse the COSD with the separate Heritage Military reference L2.819.4.93.2. Longines’ US catalog showed that different model at 38.5 mm, a stated 72-hour reserve, 3 bar and $2,750 when accessed on 8 October 2026. Those details apply to the L2.819.4.93.2, not to the COSD. See Longines’ separate Heritage Military listing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor a used COSD, compare current listings only after accounting for the exact dial and strap configuration, condition, completeness, service history, provenance and seller protections. Historical launch prices cannot establish what a particular example is worth today.
