The Longines Spirit is a collection, not one fixed watch. The current US examples covered here include 37 mm and 42 mm three-hand/date models, a 42 mm Spirit Zulu Time GMT, and a 42 mm Spirit Chronograph. Choose among them by the complication you will use, how the specific case fits your wrist, and the dial, material, and strap configuration—not by assuming every Spirit shares the same specification.

Which Longines Spirit models are covered here?

Longines uses the Spirit name across distinct references. In the official US listings reviewed in October 2026, the regular automatic three-hand/date watch was available in 37 mm and 42 mm examples. The sampled Zulu Time GMT and Chronograph were both 42 mm. That is a snapshot of those US listings, not a claim that these are the only sizes or variants offered worldwide.

What size Longines Spirit should you get?

Choose between 37 mm and 42 mm by checking the actual fit

The diameter difference is clear; the fit outcome is personal. Case diameter alone does not establish how a watch will sit on your wrist. The reviewed listings and materials do not provide a comparable lug-to-lug measurement, case-thickness comparison, or bracelet adjustment range, so a wrist-circumference rule would be unreliable.

Before choosing, compare the exact reference’s lug-to-lug length and thickness if available, and try it on where possible. Check whether the lugs extend beyond your wrist, how the case height feels under a cuff, and whether the bracelet can be sized comfortably. The 37 mm and 42 mm listings are different references, so verify the measurements and configuration of the one you intend to buy.

How do the Spirit movements and complications differ?

Three-hand/date Spirit: straightforward timekeeping

The reviewed 37 mm and 42 mm automatic examples both add a date display and list up to 72 hours of power reserve. Their movements are listed at 25,200 vibrations per hour and use a monocrystalline silicon balance-spring. Longines states that the Spirit collection movements are COSC chronometer-certified; this is the manufacturer’s certification statement, not an independent rate test.

Spirit Zulu Time: a second time zone

The Zulu Time adds a separate GMT/24-hour hand and a bidirectional bezel with a ceramic insert. Longines’s L844 instruction manual explains that the local hour can be moved in whole-hour steps without changing the second-time-zone display. This makes it the option to consider if you regularly track another time zone; the listing gives it up to 72 hours of reserve and COSC certification.

Spirit Chronograph: elapsed-time timing

The Chronograph adds stopwatch-style elapsed-time functionality and a date. Its reviewed listing gives it up to 66 hours of power reserve, a movement frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, a silicon balance-spring, and COSC certification. The shorter stated reserve than the other examples is a specification difference, not evidence that the chronograph is less accurate or inferior.

Which materials, dial, and strap configuration matter?

The sampled standard models have stainless-steel cases and bracelets. The sampled Zulu Time has a steel case and bracelet plus a ceramic-insert bezel. The reviewed Chronograph page lists both leather and steel configurations. Longines also shows alternative dial and strap or bracelet configurations on the relevant product pages; reference suffixes can identify different variants, and stock may vary.

Longines describes silicon as lightweight and corrosion-resistant, and says it is impervious to normal temperature fluctuations and magnetic fields. The company attributes improved precision and longevity to these properties and says the relevant automatic watches carry a five-year guarantee. These are Longines’s explanations, not comparative measurements made for this guide. Confirm warranty terms for your exact reference and market.

Can you swim with a Longines Spirit?

The four reviewed examples are listed at 10 bar water resistance. Longines’s 2024 L844 manual relates a marked 10 bar value to 100 m equivalent overpressure under ISO 22810. That rating describes standardized pressure resistance; it is not a recommendation to operate the watch at 100 m or a promise that every exposure at that depth is safe.

  • Before immersion, make sure the crown and any pushers are fully pushed in or screwed down.
  • Do not operate the crown or pushers underwater.
  • After contact with seawater, rinse the watch in fresh or soft water.
  • Longines advises having water resistance checked annually by an approved Longines Service Centre.
  • Do not open the watch yourself; the manual says, “In no circumstances should you open your watch yourself.”

How should you compare price and availability?

The prices in the comparison table are the figures displayed on Longines’s US site on October 12, 2026—not global prices or guaranteed current offers. Prices, promotions, and stock can change, and other markets may use different prices and configurations. Check the live page for the exact reference and suffix before purchase, especially when comparing a bracelet version with a strap variant.

A practical way to choose

  1. Pick the function. Choose the three-hand/date model for ordinary timekeeping, Zulu Time if you want a second time-zone indication, or the Chronograph if you will use elapsed-time timing.
  2. Check fit by reference. Compare the exact case diameter, lug-to-lug length, and thickness, then try the watch on if possible. Do not decide from diameter or wrist circumference alone.
  3. Set your configuration. Confirm dial color and whether the listing is for a steel bracelet or leather strap; match the complete reference number to the product page.
  4. Verify the details for your market. Recheck the live regional price, availability, guarantee terms, and water-resistance specification for the specific watch.
