The Longines Spirit is an aviation-inspired collection of automatic watches, but it is not one single model: the standard Spirit offers several sizes and materials, Spirit Pilot takes a more overtly classic aviator approach, and Spirit Zulu Time adds a second-time-zone function. Choose among them by the reference’s exact size, material and display—not by the family name alone.
What is the Longines Spirit collection?
Longines positions Spirit around aviation heritage and exploration, combining traditional pilot-watch cues with contemporary styling. The brand says Spirit movements use silicon balance springs and are COSC-certified chronometers. Those are manufacturer descriptions, not independent accuracy or performance test results. The collection includes the standard Spirit, the Spirit Pilot and the travel-oriented Spirit Zulu Time.

How do the Spirit families differ?
| Family | What distinguishes it | Sizes and materials listed by Longines | Price context |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spirit | The broad, aviation-inspired automatic family, with simpler time display options than Zulu Time. | 37 mm, 40 mm and 42 mm stainless steel; 40 mm and 42 mm titanium options. | Longines’ Swiss listings showed CHF 2,100–3,050 across displayed models when accessed in 2026. Local catalog prices can change and are not a universal street-price range. Longines Spirit collection. |
| Spirit Pilot | A fresh interpretation of classic aviator elements, in automatic models. | 39 mm stainless steel. | Longines’ Swiss listings showed CHF 2,200–2,500 across displayed models when accessed in 2026. Confirm the specific reference and current local price. Longines Spirit Pilot collection. |
| Spirit Zulu Time | The family’s second-time-zone option, with a bidirectional rotating bezel and ceramic insert. Longines describes its exclusive caliber as silicon-sprung, magnetic-resistant and COSC-certified. | 39 mm and 42 mm stainless steel; 39 mm titanium; precious-metal-capped variants are also listed. | Selected steel models were listed from CHF 2,900 on Longines’ Swiss page when accessed in 2026; titanium and gold-capped configurations were higher. These are volatile local catalog listings. Longines Spirit Zulu Time collection. |
Specifications vary by reference. The family pages do not establish that every configuration shares the same case dimensions, movement caliber, power reserve, water resistance, dial or bracelet. Check the individual product listing before comparing or buying.
Which Longines Spirit size should you choose?
The listed diameters across the families are 37 mm, 39 mm, 40 mm and 42 mm. A diameter is a useful starting point, not a complete fit measurement: it does not by itself tell you how a watch will sit on your wrist. If fit is decisive, try the exact reference on. Do not infer a particular model’s weight from its steel or titanium case material; consult its specification.
#1 Best Overall
- Automatic L888.4 movement, hours, minutes, seconds and date
- Stainless steel with triple safety folding clasp and push-piece opening mechanism
- 5 Year International Warranty
- Consider 37 mm if you want the smallest listed standard Spirit case.
- Compare 39 mm if you are considering Spirit Pilot or a 39 mm Zulu Time; they differ in function and design despite sharing a diameter.
- Compare 40 mm and 42 mm among standard Spirit references, or consider the 42 mm steel Zulu Time if its second-time-zone function is also useful.
Spirit or Spirit Pilot: what is the difference?
Both are automatic, aviation-inspired watches, but Longines presents Spirit Pilot as its own family with a fresh take on classic aviator elements. The current collection page lists 39 mm steel models; the broader Spirit family spans more sizes and includes titanium options. If you prefer a simpler display, compare the exact Spirit and Spirit Pilot references by dial, dimensions and strap or bracelet. The family names alone do not establish a specification match.
When does Spirit Zulu Time make sense?
Choose Zulu Time if you want a second-time-zone function for travel or for keeping track of another time zone. Longines describes its rotating bezel as bidirectional with a ceramic insert, and says the family’s exclusive movement has a silicon balance spring, magnetic resistance and COSC chronometer certification. The brand traces the name and concept to its 1925 dual-time-zone wristwatch and to aviation’s use of “Z” for universal time.

On 23 May 2025, Longines announced Spirit Zulu Time 1925 to mark 100 years since that earlier watch. The official launch campaign asked, “What time is it there?”—a campaign line, not a survey finding. Longines’ 23 May 2025 announcement.
What should you verify before buying?
- Open the exact regional product listing. Confirm the full reference, case diameter and material, dial, bracelet or strap, movement caliber, power reserve and water resistance. Collection pages cover families and selected configurations; do not assume all listed models share one specification.
- Check the local price and availability. Catalog prices and stock can change by market and configuration. The Swiss-franc figures above are snapshots from Longines’ Swiss listings accessed in 2026, not guaranteed prices elsewhere.
- Compare the function you will use. Standard Spirit and Spirit Pilot suit buyers seeking a simpler display; Zulu Time is the option with a second-time-zone function.
- Confirm warranty documentation. Longines states that automatic models with silicon balance springs are guaranteed for five years. Its international warranty document says mechanical watches purchased from 1 January 2021 receive a five-year warranty subject to its terms, and requires a dated, fully completed certificate from an official Longines dealer. Read the certificate and the applicable regional terms rather than assuming every circumstance is covered. Longines international warranty.
How should you care for and service one?
Longines’ warranty document advises owners to rinse the watch with fresh water after seawater exposure and have its water resistance checked yearly by an approved service centre. It also warns against operating the crown or pushers underwater and against opening the watch yourself. Use an official dealer or approved Longines service centre, and consult the warranty document for exclusions and conditions.
