Use the destructive reset before selling, returning, or giving away the Luxe, or as a last resort for persistent software failures.
Restart, factory reset, or unpair?
“Reset” can mean several different actions. Choosing the least destructive option helps protect unsynced activity and avoids unnecessary setup.

| Action | What it does | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Restart | Reboots the tracker and normally preserves activity data. | The Luxe is frozen, slow, not syncing, or missing notifications. |
| Clear User Data / factory reset | Erases locally stored information and returns the tracker to its initial setup state. | You are transferring ownership or troubleshooting a persistent serious problem. |
| Remove from the app or account | Separates the tracker from the Fitbit/Google account; it is not necessarily a device erase. | You are changing phones, accounts, or owners. |
| Forget Bluetooth pairing | Removes the phone’s saved wireless connection. | Pairing repeatedly fails or you are preparing the phone for a new setup. |
Fitbit’s current support material is presented through the Google Health Help Center, while some phones and older instructions may still call the companion software the Fitbit app. Labels can vary slightly by software version.
How to restart a responsive Fitbit Luxe
Use this non-destructive method when the touchscreen still responds:
#1 Best Overall
- See how jewelry gets smart with a tracker that doubles as a timeless accessory and features a vibrant color display
- Get better sleep to power your days with sleep tracking and sleep Score in the Fitbit app
- Feel a Buzz when you reach your target heart rate zones, while you earn active zone minutes
- 6-month trial of Fitbit Premium (New and returning Premium members only. Must activate trial within 60-days of device activation. Requires valid payment method. Cancel before end of trial to avoid recurring fees. Content and features may change. Terms & Conditions apply)
- Maximize your exercise, understand resting heart rate trends and better estimate calorie burn with 24/7 Heart rate tracking
- Wake the Luxe and display the clock screen.
- Swipe down.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Restart Device.
- Tap Restart to confirm.
- Wait for the tracker to reboot and return to the clock screen.
This is the best first step for sync glitches, taps or swipes that are not registering, missing notifications, a blank or frozen display, or activity that is not updating. Restarting normally does not delete activity data, but sync the Luxe before troubleshooting whenever possible.
Google’s restart guidance for Fitbit devices documents this procedure and its data-preserving purpose.

If the touchscreen does not respond, use the charging cable:

- Find the small button on the flat end of the charger.
- Press the button three times, pausing about one second between presses.
- Wait about 10 seconds, or until the Fitbit logo appears.
This charger-button procedure is a restart, not a factory erase.
Alternative charger reconnection method
If the charger button does not restart the tracker:
- Disconnect the Luxe from the charging cable.
- Wait about one second.
- Reconnect it.
- Repeat the disconnect-and-reconnect cycle three times within approximately eight seconds.
- Wait about 10 seconds for the tracker to restart.
Make sure the charger contacts are aligned and secure. Do not insert a paper clip or another object into a sensor opening; use only the supported charger-based recovery methods.

How to factory-reset a Fitbit Luxe
Before erasing the Luxe, sync it and check the Google Health/Fitbit app for your latest activity, sleep, and other records. A factory reset should be deliberate because information that has not synchronized may be lost.
- Start on the clock screen.
- Swipe down.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Device Info.
- Tap Clear User Data.
- Confirm the erase if prompted.
- Wait for the Luxe to clear its information and return to its initial state.
Some troubleshooting material may call the same destructive operation Factory Reset rather than Clear User Data. On the Luxe, the current official erase instructions use Device Info → Clear User Data.
Use factory reset for ownership transfer, or after restarting and attempting normal re-pairing have not resolved a persistent software issue, failed update, or boot loop. It is not a guaranteed cure for every hardware or charging fault.
For the official Luxe erase procedure, see Google Health’s device-removal and erase guidance.
What does a factory reset delete?
The erase removes information stored locally on the tracker. This can include:
- Unsynced activity statistics and other records still held only on the Luxe.
- Alarms and goals.
- Notification settings.
- Personal information and other local device settings.
Information that successfully synchronized to your Fitbit/Google account generally remains associated with that account. Do not assume that unsynced information can be recovered after clearing user data.
Resetting the Luxe before selling or giving it away
A factory reset alone is not the complete ownership-transfer process. Use this order:
- Open the Google Health/Fitbit app and sync the Luxe.
- Confirm that your recent activity and sleep records appear in the account.
- Remove the Luxe from the app or account using the device-removal option.
- On the tracker, select Settings → Device Info → Clear User Data.
- On the phone, open Bluetooth settings and choose Forget, Unpair, or the equivalent option for the Luxe.
- Leave the tracker at its initial setup screen for the new owner.
Deleting the phone app or forgetting Bluetooth does not necessarily erase data from the tracker, and clearing user data does not replace account removal.

If pairing fails after the reset
Do not repeatedly factory-reset the tracker. Work through the phone connection instead:
- Confirm that the Luxe has charge.
- Restart the Luxe.
- Close and reopen the Google Health/Fitbit app.
- Remove the Luxe from the app if it still appears there.
- Open the phone’s Bluetooth settings and forget or unpair the Luxe.
- Return to the app and choose Set Up a Device.
- Keep other phones and tablets that previously used the Luxe away from it during pairing.
- Restart the phone if setup still fails, then try again.
On an iPhone or iPad, current Fitbit troubleshooting recommends forgetting the device in Bluetooth first and, if necessary, uninstalling and reinstalling the app rather than relying on an Android-style cache-clearing step.
Common problems and the right next step
The screen is blank
Connect the Luxe to its charger, check that the contacts are aligned, and try the three-press charger-button restart. If there is still no response, allow it to charge before trying recovery again.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The Luxe will not charge
Check and clean the charging contacts as directed by Fitbit, verify the connection, and attempt a restart while the tracker is connected. A factory reset will not repair a damaged charger or other hardware fault.
The Luxe shows a red X or a sync error
Do not erase it immediately. Remove the device from the app, forget or unpair it in phone Bluetooth settings, restart the phone and tracker, and set it up again.
The Luxe is stuck in a boot loop
Try the charger-based restart first. If the loop continues after normal troubleshooting, a factory reset may be a last-resort option, but locally stored data can be lost.
The reset option is missing
Charge the Luxe or keep it securely connected to its charger, restart it if the settings menu is unresponsive, and look for either Clear User Data or Factory Reset. If the tracker is in the middle of an update or stuck in a boot loop, avoid improvised button combinations and follow official troubleshooting guidance.
