The mechanical models are international references SRPE29K1 and SRPE31K1; the hybrids are SNJ029P1 and SNJ031P1. Seiko used different reference numbers for the Japanese-market versions, so the market matters when identifying one.
What are the Urban Safari watches?
Seiko introduced the four Urban Safari models as additions to its Prospex Street Series in 2020. The collection combines safari-influenced colors with a protective outer-case design that Seiko traces to its 1975 professional diver. Seiko describes the concept as bringing together Tokyo’s urban character and safari styling. Seiko’s France announcement introduced the international references on 18 May 2020.
The Street Series began in 2018, according to Seiko. Its protected-case design is associated with the 1975 diver often nicknamed “Tuna” by watch enthusiasts. That nickname refers to the distinctive case-protector design, not a separate movement or feature.

The Japanese references are not alternate spellings of the international numbers: they identify Seiko’s Japan-market lineup. Seiko’s Japan collection page gives those references and describes the concept as safari style combined with Tokyo’s character.

The solar pair is notably larger in Seiko France’s published dimensions. Its H851 movement adds timekeeping and chronograph functions through the digital display; it is not an automatic watch. Seiko calls the models solar divers with analog hands and an LCD on its Japan page.
Regional specification differences
Specifications can be presented with different rounding or detail across Seiko’s regional pages. Seiko Germany lists the mechanical models at 43.0 mm by 13.0 mm and the hybrid models at 48.0 mm by 14.0 mm. It gives the 4R36 a power reserve of more than 41 hours; for the H851 it lists up to six months of power reserve, a second time zone and an energy-saving function. Seiko Japan describes the lineup as having 200 m air-diving water resistance and silicone straps. The France page specifically lists the one-way rotating bezel and reinforced silicone strap for the mechanical models. Specifications above are manufacturer-published, not independent test results.
Why are the hybrids associated with the “Arnie”?
Seiko describes SNJ029P1 and SNJ031P1 as modern versions of its 1982 Hybrid Diver’s, a design enthusiasts call “Arnie.” The nickname is commonly used by fans; Seiko’s collection materials establish the historical relationship to the 1982 model. Both hybrid Urban Safari references combine analog hands with a digital display, unlike the mechanical SRPE models.

Seiko Japan planned to release the Japanese references in late June 2020. Its Japan collection page lists the Japanese references and launch pricing; the France figures appear in the France announcement.

Which Urban Safari model should you look at?
- Choose the mechanical family if: you want an automatic movement, a straightforward three-hand day-date display and the smaller of the two published case sizes. Its 4R36 can also be hand-wound.
- Look at the solar hybrid family if: you want solar power and the added digital functions, including an alarm, chronograph and LED light, and are comfortable with the larger case dimensions.
Both families are presented by Seiko as 200 m diver’s watches. That shared rating does not make their movements, displays or dimensions interchangeable; check the exact reference and the specifications for the market in which the watch was sold.
Seiko’s launch materials establish the collection’s original specifications and recommended prices, but do not establish current retail stock, resale value, or the condition of any particular used watch. An exact reference—such as SRPE29K1 or SBEQ007—is the clearest way to search listings without confusing international and Japanese-market versions.
