The MIDO Multifort TV Big Date Alebrijes is a 2026 Día de Muertos special edition, reference M049.526.11.081.02. It places a central Calavera among colorful Alebrijes on a grey gradient dial, uses Super-LumiNova to change the artwork’s look in the dark, runs on the automatic Calibre 80 with up to 80 hours of power reserve, and ships with two interchangeable straps alongside the steel bracelet: red rubber and Milanese mesh.
What MIDO has released
MIDO’s official product announcement names the watch the Multifort TV Big Date Alebrijes Special Edition. It is the latest entry in a Día de Muertos series that MIDO says it has produced every year since 2020. Each edition applies a seasonal artwork theme to an existing Multifort design, and this year’s theme is the Alebrijes, the fantastical painted creatures that MIDO describes as born of Mexican imagination.
The watch is a special edition of an established model rather than a new case design. Swatch Group’s corporate archive, in an article dated 15 June 2023, records that MIDO used the TV-shaped case in models in 1973, 1980 and 2000, and describes the return of the Multifort TV Big Date in 2023. The Alebrijes edition therefore sits on a case with a documented history, and its novelty lies in the dial artwork and the strap set.
Dial and luminous design
The dial is a grey gradient with a Calavera at its centre, surrounded by Alebrijes artwork. MIDO states that the artwork is designed to change visually in the dark because it is printed with Super-LumiNova, so the luminous look is a different image from the daytime one rather than a plain glow of the hands and indexes. The announcement does not describe the exact after-dark appearance in words, so the best way to judge it is to view photographs or a retailer’s low-light image before buying.

- Swiss Made Watch for Men and Women
- Movement: Automatic Mido Caliber - Power reserve 80 hours
- Case Type: Stainless Steel TV-shaped case with see-through case back|screw-down crown
- Case Size: 40mm - Case Thickness: 11.48mm - Crystal: Sapphire crystal with double sided anti-reflection treatment
- Strap: Blue Rubber Strap with Pin Buckle Closure - Lug Width: 22mm
The Multifort TV Big Date layout keeps the big date window as the signature display, so the dial is busier than a standard three-hand face. Readers who prefer minimal dials should weigh the artwork against that layout.
Movement and power reserve
MIDO specifies the Calibre 80, an automatic movement, with a Nivachron balance spring and a power reserve of up to 80 hours. The reserve figure is MIDO’s stated maximum. It is not a guarantee for every wearing pattern, and the announcement does not say whether the figure was measured under a specific test standard, so treat it as the manufacturer’s rating.

Case, crystal and water resistance
A specialist report from Hen & Mills, dated 2 October 2026, lists the case and dimensions below. These details come from that secondary source, and the local MIDO listing is the place to confirm them for your market.
| Attribute | Reported specification | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Reference | M049.526.11.081.02 | MIDO official announcement |
| Case material | 316L stainless steel | Hen & Mills, 2 October 2026 |
| Case size | 40 mm wide, 39.2 mm long, 11.5 mm thick | Hen & Mills, 2 October 2026 |
| Crystal | Sapphire with anti-reflective coating on both sides | Hen & Mills, 2 October 2026 |
| Water resistance | 10 bar / 100 m, with screw-down crown | Hen & Mills, 2 October 2026 |
| Lug width | 22 mm | Hen & Mills, 2 October 2026 |
| Movement | Automatic Calibre 80, Nivachron balance spring | MIDO official announcement |
| Power reserve | Up to 80 hours | MIDO official announcement |
The 100 m rating is a static water-resistance figure. It indicates resistance to water splashes and immersion under controlled conditions, and it is not a dive-certification claim. The announcement and the specialist report do not state a dive standard for this reference.

- Swiss Made Watch for Men and Women
- Movement: Automatic Mido Caliber - Power reserve 80 hours

- Case Size: 40mm - Case Thickness: 11.48mm - Crystal: Sapphire crystal with double sided anti-reflection treatment
- Strap: Stainless Steel Bracelet with Folding Clasp Closure - Lug Width: 22mm
At 40 mm wide and 11.5 mm thick, the case is a substantial watch. Wrist fit depends on wrist size and on how the 39.2 mm length sits with your wrist curvature, and no wear test is represented here.
Straps and the 22 mm lug
The watch is offered in three strap expressions: the steel bracelet, a red rubber strap and a Milanese mesh strap. MIDO’s announcement says two additional interchangeable straps accompany the watch. Because the reported lug width is 22 mm, strap changes should use 22 mm straps. Standalone strap availability and exact fit for this reference are not confirmed in the sources reviewed, so check with MIDO or an authorised retailer before buying a replacement.

Price and availability
Pricing is regional. Hen & Mills reported the following suggested prices on 2 October 2026. These figures are a snapshot from that date, not a live MIDO price list.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Alebrijes edition the same watch as the standard Multifort TV Big Date?
It uses the same TV-shaped Multifort case lineage described in Swatch Group’s archive, but the Alebrijes edition carries its own reference, M049.526.11.081.02, a Calavera and Alebrijes dial, and the three-strap set. Confirm the full specification list on MIDO’s local listing before comparing it with other Multifort references.
Where does the 2020 start date come from?
MIDO’s own product announcement says its annual Día de Muertos special-edition series began in 2020 and has continued since. This is the brand’s statement, not an independent verification.
The Bottom Line
The MIDO Multifort TV Big Date Alebrijes suits buyers who want a themed, luminous dial on an established 40 mm TV-shaped case with a substantial strap set, and who are comfortable paying the regional price for the artwork. Buyers who want a plain dial, a verified low-light photograph or a confirmed standalone strap market should verify those points with MIDO or an authorised retailer before purchase.
