The Mido Ocean Star Tribute makes a strong spec-sheet case for its price: a 40.5 mm steel case, sapphire crystal, screw-down crown, day/date display, rotating bezel and automatic Calibre 80 rated for up to 80 hours of power reserve. Mido specifies water resistance to 200 m (20 bar). That is a compelling package, but the available evidence supports a measured verdict—not proof that it outperforms similarly priced watches.
What the Ocean Star Tribute offers
Mido presents the Tribute as a return to the aesthetic codes of 1960s dive watches. That is the brand’s description of its styling, not evidence that the current watch reproduces a specific vintage model. The overall proposition pairs a retro-leaning design with practical modern specifications.
The black-dial M026.830.11.051.00 and blue-dial M026.830.11.041.00 share the core dimensions and features below, according to Mido France’s black-dial product page and blue-dial product page.

Is it a capable dive watch?
The screw-down crown and manufacturer-stated 200 m / 20 bar water resistance give the Tribute the headline water-resistance specification many buyers seek in a dive-style watch. The cited listings also identify a rotating bezel. Those are meaningful features, but the rating should be read as Mido’s specification—not as proof of certification to a named dive-watch standard. The available product information does not establish a particular safe dive profile or replace the need to follow the manufacturer’s guidance for actual underwater use.
#1 Best Overall
- Swiss Made Watch
- Movement: The MIDO Caliber 80 represents a major advance in self-winding movements. Thanks to its new-generation technology, it offers up to 80 hours of power reserve
- Case Type: Stainless steel - Capable of withstanding pressures of up to 20 bar (200 m/660 ft), and equipped with a screw-down crown
- Case Size: 40.5mm - Case Thickness: 13.4mm - Blue Dial with Date Calendar - Blue Bezel - Crystal: Sapphire crystal
- Band Type: Stainless Steel Bracelet with folding clasp and diving extension - Extra Blue Rubber Strap included - Band Width: 21mm
For everyday wear, the sapphire crystal, steel-bracelet configuration and day/date display make the watch versatile on paper. At 40.5 mm across and 13.4 mm thick, it is not an especially thin case; whether it wears comfortably depends on wrist shape, fit and personal preference. Trying it on is more useful than judging dimensions in isolation.
Does it punch above its weight on value?
At the time the cited pages were accessed, Mido France listed both named steel-bracelet references at €1,140. Nordstrom showed $1,360 for its US listings: one listing described a fabric strap and bracelet, and another described an interchangeable steel bracelet and textured rubber strap. These are snapshots from different markets and retailers, not directly comparable prices or a universal current price. Check the relevant local listing before buying.

- Swiss Made Watch
- Movement: Automatic Mido Caliber - Power reserve 80 hours
- Case Type: Stainless steel - Capable of withstanding pressures of up to 20 bar (200 m/660 ft), and equipped with a screw-down crown
- Case Size: 40.5mm - Case Thickness: 13.4mm - Silver Gradient Dial with Day,Date Calendar - Black Bezel - Crystal: Sapphire crystal
- Band Type: Black Rubber Strap with Pin Buckle closure - Band Width: 21mm
The specification-to-price story is attractive: an automatic movement with an up-to-80-hour stated reserve, sapphire crystal, 200 m manufacturer rating, and bracelet or strap configurations. But specifications alone cannot establish that the watch is a better value than competitors. No independent comparative test is available here to substantiate the phrase “punches above its weight” as a measured performance claim.
For a fair comparison, use watches offered in the same market and at the same current price basis. Compare case size and thickness, water-resistance rating and any documented certification, movement and stated reserve, crystal, included bracelet or straps, warranty and service support. The Tribute’s case is strongest when its design and feature mix match your priorities—not because a spec sheet proves it beats a particular alternative.

Which dial and strap configuration should you choose?
Black or blue dial
The cited Mido France references share the listed technical specifications, so the choice is primarily visual: M026.830.11.051.00 has a black dial, while M026.830.11.041.00 has a blue dial. Choose based on the look you are more likely to wear; the available specifications do not establish a performance difference between them.
Bracelet, fabric or rubber
The cited Mido references are listed with a 21 mm lug width, and Mido’s pages list fabric and rubber strap options. Nordstrom’s US listings also describe a fabric-and-bracelet configuration and a bracelet-and-rubber-strap set. Before ordering a replacement or set, confirm that it fits your exact reference and attachment system; matching the nominal lug width alone may not settle compatibility.

- Swiss Made Watch
- Movement: Automatic Mido Caliber - Power reserve 80 hours
- Case Type: Stainless steel - Capable of withstanding pressures of up to 20 bar (200 m/660 ft), and equipped with a screw-down crown

- Band Type: Black Rubber Strap with Pin Buckle closure - Band Width: 21mm
A steel bracelet suits a more traditional, substantial look. Fabric and rubber offer different textures and may be preferable for a more casual style or frequent water exposure, but the listings do not establish that one option is universally more comfortable or durable. Choose for your use and fit, and verify what is included in the specific regional listing.

What to check before buying
- Confirm the exact reference and dial color; the black and blue steel-bracelet references are distinct models.
- Check the price, stock, included straps and warranty terms on the retailer’s current listing for your market.
- If buying another strap, confirm the 21 mm fit and compatibility with the specific watch reference.
- If you intend to use it for diving, consult Mido’s current instructions and do not treat the 200 m rating as evidence of a named certification.
