How thin is the case, and what is the design like?
At 6.9 mm thick and 38 mm across, the 27.01’s proportions are the central part of its design story. Hodinkee’s Jack Forster introduced it as “The new timepiece is the Ming 27.01, the first Ming extra-flat watch.” The case is steel, with sculpted lugs and a machined groove that continues through the openworked lugs. An open caseback exposes the movement.
The multitone-grey dial uses a cut-out chapter ring for its hour markers. The watch shows only hours and minutes, and it has no lume, an important distinction for anyone who expects markers to glow in low light. Its launch strap was burgundy leather by Jean Rousseau Paris; that launch detail is not confirmation of what a current listing, if one exists, includes.
What movement is inside the Ming 27.01?
The caliber is called Ming 7001 M1 and is based on the ETA/Peseux 7001. Hodinkee reported that the movement was substantially reworked: only the going train and escapement were retained from the base movement, while Schwartz-Etienne executed the plates and bridges in Switzerland. It is therefore more precise to describe it as a modified movement based on the 7001 than as a wholly in-house caliber.

The movement is manually wound, was adjusted to five positions, and has a listed 42-hour power reserve. These are the published specifications, not a claim about measured performance in a particular watch.
What does 50 m water resistance mean in practice?
The 50 m rating is the figure reported at the 2020 launch. Is the Ming 27.01 on “last call” now?

Hodinkee published its introduction of the Ming 27.01 on May 1, 2020, describing the model as Ming’s first extra-flat watch. A later MING journal article from March 16, 2023 discusses assembly of the 22.01 Kyoto and other models, not the 27.01; it does not establish this model’s current production or assembly status.
