Which Timex x The James Brand watch is this?
This is the original 2021 black-dial collaboration, reference TW2V48600. It is a time-and-date automatic field watch, not the white-dial follow-up or the later Titanium GMT. Timex’s October 7, 2021 announcement identifies the original model and its core specifications.
The distinction matters if you are comparing listings: the 2022 white-dial edition was a separate 1,000-piece release, while the 2024 Titanium GMT added a different movement and time-zone functionality. Neither later watch should be treated as the black-dial TW2V48600.

The 200-meter rating is a stated specification, not an independently documented dive test. Likewise, the launch materials do not provide controlled comparative performance measurements.

Design intent: utility with an everyday-carry point of view
Timex framed the collaboration around craftsmanship and function. In its launch announcement, Timex Chief Executive Creative Director Giorgio Galli said: “Partnering with The James Brand allowed us to apply our mutual appreciation for craftsmanship and functionality to a piece that honors our respective passions for watchmaking and everyday carry essentials”. This explains the partners’ stated aim; it is not independent evidence that the watch outperforms other field watches.
The James Brand founder and Chief Creative Officer Ryan Coulter described a broader design philosophy: “elevate traditional tools, like the pocketknife, from the tactical realm and into a space in which they carry some form of emotional currency.” The announcement also attributes to Coulter the line, “Our collaboration with Timex tells an integrated story—one that’s centered around strengthening the connective tissue between the product and the wearer.” These remarks position the watch as both a functional object and part of an everyday-carry aesthetic.

The GMT’s time-zone features—including its independent local-hour adjustment—are not features of the 2021 automatic. The two watches answer different needs: the original is a straightforward field-style time-and-date watch, while the GMT is designed to track another time zone.

Is the 2021 titanium automatic worth considering?
Its documented package is appealing if you specifically want a compact-by-modern-standards 41mm titanium automatic with sapphire crystal, C3 lume, and a 200-meter rating, and you value the collaboration’s everyday-carry design language. The record here does not establish long-term reliability, comparative accuracy, or a controlled advantage over other watches. Treat those as questions to resolve through a current, condition-specific listing or owner inspection rather than assuming them from the specifications.
At release, duPont REGISTRY News reported a $349 price and a 500-piece run, with all 500 units spoken for at launch. That says what happened in 2021; it does not establish current stock, current asking prices, or present resale value. Check any listing for reference TW2V48600, black dial, seller, condition, and included accessories. A listing for the white dial or GMT is a different product, even if its title uses similar collaboration wording.
