Announced on 15 September 2026, the Rolex Perpetual Padellone pairs an annual calendar with a moonphase display in a 39 mm case. Its name nods to reference 8171, the vintage Rolex collectors nicknamed “Padellone.” The calendar distinguishes 30-day from 31-day months, but it still requires one adjustment each year when February turns to March: “Perpetual” is the model name, not a claim that its calendar is perpetual.
A moonphase framed by a calendar
The watch brings together several ways of marking time: hours, minutes and seconds, plus the day, date, month and phase of the Moon. Rolex describes the display as an instantaneous complete annual calendar with moonphase. Day and month appear in apertures at 12 o’clock; a blue centre hand points to the date around the dial; and the moonphase sits at 6 o’clock.

Rolex describes the grained dial as having a satin-finished periphery. The layout gives the calendar information the upper part of the dial while reserving the lower position for the lunar display. Rolex put the inspiration in atmospheric terms: “With its moonphase disc that links the rhythm of the Moon with that of the Earth, it offers a window onto the night sky.”
What the annual calendar does—and what it does not
Rolex says the Haplos mechanism differentiates between months of 30 and 31 days. Day, date and month change together at midnight, in a fraction of a second, according to the company. Because February is shorter, the calendar needs an adjustment when February turns to March once a year.

That is the practical distinction behind the name: the Perpetual Padellone is described as an annual-calendar watch, not a perpetual-calendar watch. Rolex’s release materials do not say that the mechanism automatically accounts for February’s variable length.
The moonphase disc and its materials
The blue enamel disc completes one rotation each lunar month, which Rolex states as 29.53 days. Its full- and new-moon elements are made from meteorite, with the new moon finished in dark blue PVD coating. The display is a crafted representation of the lunar cycle; Rolex’s stated rotation period is the specification given for the disc.

Three configurations, two case materials
Rolex publishes three versions. They share the 39 mm case size but differ in metal, dial colour and whether the watch is paired with a bracelet or leather strap.

The range gives the buyer a straightforward style choice: the Settimo bracelet or a leather strap, alongside either the warm tone of Everose gold or the cooler platinum-and-ice-blue combination. The published descriptions do not establish a price or say which configuration will be stocked in any particular market.

Calibre 7190 and the Haplos mechanism
Rolex identifies the movement as calibre 7190 and names its annual-calendar mechanism Haplos. The company says the calibre beats at 5 hertz and is protected by 30 patent applications, two of them exclusive to this watch. These are Rolex’s published movement specifications and patent claims, rather than independent test results.
Why “Padellone” matters
The name connects the new model to Rolex reference 8171, which collectors nicknamed “Padellone.” Rolex’s launch announcement explicitly invokes that heritage. The connection gives the modern release a historical reference point while its display and mechanism are presented as a new combination of moonphase and annual calendar.
