The Moritz Grossmann HAMATIC is an automatic mechanical watch with a distinctive winding mechanism: manufacture calibre 106.0 uses a pendulum-style hammer rather than the conventional central rotor design described in the available sources. The mechanism is unusual, but the watch’s dial and overall presentation remain restrained. In a 2023 hands-on account, MONOCHROME’s Robin Nooy praised its classical look and finishing while cautioning that its dimensions may not suit everyone.
How does the HAMATIC winding system work?
As the wearer moves, a pendulum-style hammer in calibre 106.0 gathers kinetic energy and passes it through the winding train to the mainspring. It is an automatic watch, but its winding element is not the familiar central rotor. The official GPHG entry and Moritz Grossmann’s product material describe the hammer system.
The distinction is mechanical rather than magical: the watch needs movement from an external source. In its 2025 catalogue, Moritz Grossmann puts it plainly: “Of course, the HAMATIC does not purport to be a perpetual motion machine – after all, the first automatic watch from Moritz Grossmann draws its kinetic energy from an external source.”
What is inside calibre 106.0?
Moritz Grossmann’s official boutique lists calibre 106.0 as adjusted in five positions, with 312 parts, 38 jewels—including three in screwed gold chatons—a lever escapement and a 72-hour power reserve. These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent test results.

What does the hands-on review say about wearing it?
Writing for MONOCHROME on 19 April 2023, Robin Nooy discussed the rose-gold HAMATIC Argenté. He called it an elegant dress watch and praised its classical dial, hand-finished hands and the feedback he felt when setting it. Those are Nooy’s impressions from his handling of that watch, not a claim that every HAMATIC configuration wears identically.
Nooy also noted that its dimensions may not suit everyone’s idea of a dress watch. That is a useful counterweight to its restrained appearance: dial style alone does not determine wrist presence.

HAMATIC dimensions and water resistance vary by record
The available figures refer to different records or configurations, so they should not be collapsed into one universal specification.

The discrepancy makes the reference and source important whenever quoting dimensions or water resistance. Neither figure should be assumed to apply to every HAMATIC edition.

What do the published prices tell you?
The GPHG record lists CHF 45,350 including VAT for its reference record, while MONOCHROME listed EUR 57,000 for the Argenté it covered in April 2023. These are historical, source-specific figures in different currencies and contexts—not a current price comparison or a present-day retail quotation. Ask Moritz Grossmann or an authorized retailer for the price of the exact configuration in your market.

Moritz Grossmann’s official site features a HAMATIC Silver-Plated by Friction edition associated with the manufactory’s 2026 bicentenary. The brand describes its dial as having a hand-applied, fine-grained finish. An official product page does not establish local stock or pricing, so availability needs to be confirmed for the buyer’s market.
