Some early OnePlus Watch 3 units were engraved “Meda in China” instead of “Made in China” on the rear case. OnePlus called the error accidental on February 21, 2025, and offered affected owners two choices: keep the watch or return it for a replacement with the corrected inscription.
This is a physical engraving error, not a software problem. An update, factory reset, OHealth setting, or new strap cannot fix it.

What is wrong with the OnePlus Watch 3?
The typo appears on the watch’s rear caseback, where the manufacturing inscription should read “Made in China.” On affected units, the word “Made” is misspelled as “Meda.” The error was also visible in some official product renders, according to contemporaneous reporting.
There is no reported effect on the Watch 3’s display, battery, sensors, GPS, connectivity, Wear OS software, or health and fitness features. It is a cosmetic labeling and quality-control mistake, not evidence of a functional or safety defect.

What did OnePlus say?
On February 21, 2025, OnePlus acknowledged the inscription error on X and described it as unintentional. The company jokingly referred to it as a “meda mistake,” but offered a practical remedy:
- Keep the watch as an unusual early-production curiosity.
- Return it to OnePlus for a replacement without the typo.
The public information does not establish how many watches were affected, which serial numbers are included, the exact manufacturing window, or whether every launch market received the same batch. Do not assume that all Watch 3 units have the error—or that every later unit is corrected—without checking the individual watch or receiving confirmation from OnePlus.
How to request a corrected replacement
OnePlus’s announcement did not publish a complete universal return workflow. Use the following as sensible precautions, while following the instructions from the relevant regional support team or retailer:

- Take clear photographs of the inscription and the complete watch.
- Record the serial number, order number, purchase date, retailer, and country of purchase.
- Contact the retailer or the official OnePlus support channel for the country where you bought the watch.
- Explain that the watch has the caseback engraving typo and request either a corrected replacement or confirmation that you may retain the unit.
- Before sending anything, ask whether the replacement is new or refurbished, whether it will match the original color and size, how warranty coverage will continue, and whether return authorization is required.
- Synchronize or back up relevant data through OHealth. Remove accounts and perform a factory reset only when instructed.
- Photograph the package, retain the shipping receipt and tracking number, and inspect the replacement’s caseback before closing the matter.
If you bought the watch from a third-party retailer, start there if its return window is still open. Warranty and replacement rules can vary by country and seller. Owners who received the watch as a gift, bought it second-hand, or no longer have the original order number should gather proof of ownership and ask OnePlus what documentation it accepts.

Should you keep the typo or exchange the watch?

OnePlus’s “super limited edition” wording was playful. The available evidence does not prove that these watches are genuinely rare, officially collectible, or worth more on the resale market. Novelty value is plausible; confirmed rarity and a resale premium are not established.
Can software fix “Meda in China”?
No. The text is physically engraved into the case. Changing the language or region, updating Wear OS, reinstalling or using OHealth, resetting the watch, or replacing the band will not alter it. The stated correction is a hardware exchange through OnePlus, not a firmware update.
Do not pay for unofficial engraving or caseback work. Altering the case could affect the finish, water resistance, or warranty, and it would not be an official correction.
Watch 3 context for prospective buyers
The inscription does not change the Watch 3’s advertised capabilities. On its official product page, OnePlus lists features including up to five days in Smart Mode, a 1.5-inch LTPO display, sapphire crystal, dual-frequency GPS, IP68 protection, 50-meter water resistance, and MIL-STD-810H testing. These are manufacturer claims, not independent test results.

The watch uses Wear OS and is intended for Android users. OnePlus says the OHealth app requires a supported Android phone running Android 9.0 or later with Google Mobile Services; iOS and Android Go are not supported. Some camera-control and short-video features require compatible OnePlus or OPPO phones running OxygenOS 15 or ColorOS 15 or later.
OnePlus also says the watch is for general wellness and fitness, not a medical device. The engraving error should not be treated as proof that the watch is unsafe, just as it should not be ignored if it affects your expectations about labeling and quality control.
What remains unknown
- The total number of incorrectly engraved watches.
- The affected serial-number ranges.
- The precise manufacturing dates or batch boundaries.
- Whether all regions received the same early units.
- Whether corrected watches have different packaging or serial identifiers.
- How long the replacement option remains available in each market.
Some contemporaneous coverage also reported a delay involving open sales, but the replacement announcement alone does not establish the full cause, timing, or market-by-market effect of any launch change.
Bottom line
“Meda in China” is a real engraving typo found on at least some early OnePlus Watch 3 units. It does not affect the watch’s operation, but it cannot be patched. Photograph the caseback, preserve your purchase details, contact the correct regional seller or OnePlus support channel, and choose between keeping the novelty and requesting a corrected replacement.
