The Orfina Golden Flame Double Automatic Twin Special, reference 6938, puts two independently operated automatic movements and two time displays in one wristwatch. Its twin crowns and date windows make the unusual architecture part of the design, not a hidden GMT-style feature. The exact production decade and a single definitive case diameter remain uncertain in the published sources.
How the Twin Special tells time
Fratello’s model feature describes two separate automatic movements, each powering its own time display. Two signed crowns operate the displays independently, and each dial has a date window. That arrangement is fundamentally different from a conventional dual-time watch in which one movement drives both displays through a second-time-zone complication.
The source does not identify the movement calibres, so the safest description is simply two independent automatic movements. Fratello notes the date windows sit at the top and bottom of the respective dials.
A distinctly 1970s-looking design, with a dating caveat
The example pictured and discussed by Fratello has a copper-brown sunburst effect, two oval dials, prominent lettering, blue accents on one date disc, and a central seconds hand. Its curved case, built from curves and half-arcs, gives the watch an expressive, sculptural profile. Fratello also mentions colorful dial variations, but the available sources do not establish a definitive catalogue of original variants. These details describe documented examples, not every Golden Flame.

The production decade is not settled. Fratello identifies the model as a 1970s watch, while a 2007 Watchismo collector post labels an example 1960s. Neither source is a manufacturer catalogue, and no primary Orfina document establishes the date definitively. It is therefore more accurate to call it a vintage model with conflicting published dating than to state a decade as certain. Fratello Watches’ 2024 feature and Watchismo’s 2007 post document the disagreement.
Case size: published figures differ
Fratello gives a 40 mm diameter for the example in its feature. A Watchering listing for a particular example reports 43.4 mm. The sources do not reconcile whether the difference reflects distinct examples or measurement conventions, so neither figure should be treated as a universal specification.

For a watch you are considering, ask for measurements of that specific piece, including case width and thickness, and assess how its shape and bracelet or strap sit on your wrist. The listing’s stated diameter is a product-description figure, not a verified specification for every reference 6938. Watchering’s example listing also marks its age and condition as unknown.
What to check before buying a vintage example
Because the watch has two movements and two separately operated displays, an attractive dial alone cannot establish that the whole watch is functioning properly. Treat each time display as a separate mechanical system when assessing a specific example.

- Ask for evidence of operation: Request clear photos of both movements and a demonstration that each crown operates its corresponding display. Confirm that both time displays and date indications work.
- Look for service documentation: Ask whether each movement has been serviced and when. If records are absent or incomplete, factor an independent watchmaker’s assessment into your decision.
- Check originality and condition: Compare the dial, hands, crowns, bracelet, and case condition with documented examples. The available sources do not provide a definitive variant catalogue, so resemblance alone cannot prove originality.
- Verify fit on the actual watch: Get specific measurements and, where possible, try the watch on. The published diameters differ, and the case’s unusual curves may affect wrist presence beyond the number alone.
These checks are practical precautions for a vintage watch with two movements; they do not establish the condition of any particular listing.

In April 2024, Fratello’s author suggested that an example might be found for about $800 with patience. That was a dated, approximate buying observation—not a current valuation, market statistic, or promise of availability. Current asking prices, supply, originality, and condition can vary, and the sources do not establish a dependable present-day price.
