The clearest practical difference is size: Swatch lists the new watch at 47 mm across, while Chrono24 lists the original at 37 mm.
Are the Grand Prix and Neon to the Max the same watch?
No. They are distinct Swatch references from different eras: the original GRAND PRIX is SCJ101, while NEON TO THE MAX is SB06J100. Swatch describes the newer watch as an oversized retro design inspired by its collectible 1990s GRAND PRIX. That confirms a design connection, not that the new model reproduces the original’s chronograph functions.

The 10 mm difference in listed diameter makes the modern watch substantially wider. Its 52.5 mm lug-to-lug measurement also gives useful context for how much wrist space it may occupy. These figures come from different sources: Swatch’s own specifications for SB06J100 and Chrono24’s secondary reference listing for SCJ101.

How does the design differ?
NEON TO THE MAX brings the colorful, playful look into a larger contemporary case. Swatch describes its dial as multicolor neon, with a bright yellow biosourced case and dark blue biosourced strap. The combination recalls the vintage watch’s design language, but the oversized proportions make the newer model visually distinct.
For the original, Chrono24’s listing supports the cited size and function details, but the available sources do not provide a full official historical specification sheet. The visual relationship is best understood as inspiration rather than proof of a one-to-one recreation.

What is known about the original’s age?
The GRAND PRIX belongs to the early-1990s context, but the available evidence does not establish a definitive release date. Vintage dealer Antika AS says its documentation is dated 10/92 and the watch bears 1991 copyright text. Those details support an early-1990s association, not a confirmed launch year.

Swatch’s US product page listed SB06J100 at $165 when accessed in 2026. That is a US listing at that time, not a stable or worldwide price; regional pricing and availability can change, so check Swatch’s local listing for current details.
