The revised model combines that unusual display with a 316L steel case, sapphire crystal, and an automatic Miyota movement. Ōtsuka Lōtec currently lists it at ¥495,000 including tax and directs prospective buyers to an application lottery.
What is the Ōtsuka Lōtec No.6?
The No.6 is a Japanese mechanical wristwatch by Ōtsuka Lōtec, the independent watch brand founded by designer and watchmaker Jiro Katayama. Rather than using conventional circular hour markers, its dial is arranged like a meter: two coaxial hands move across fan-shaped hour and minute scales. The seconds and date are displayed separately, giving the face the character of a small mechanical dashboard.

That industrial-instrument look is not just a matter of styling. Ōtsuka Lōtec says the hour-and-minute mechanism sits beneath the lower portion of the fan-shaped glass, a layout intended to help keep the watch thinner. The current official specification gives the case a diameter of 42.6 mm and a thickness of 11.8 mm. Ōtsuka Lōtec’s No.6 model page describes the display and construction.

Hour and minute hands return to zero
Both time hands are retrograde: instead of circling the dial continuously, each travels along its arc and returns to the starting point. The minute hand completes its one-hour sweep before resetting. In its July 16, 2024 review, Monochrome Watches describes the hour and minute hands resetting at midday and midnight, and reports a noticeable click as they return. That sound is the reviewer’s observation, not a performance test of every example.
#1 Best Overall
- Stylish Classic Dial Design: This analog watch features a refined dial with full Arabic numerals, delivering a elegant fashion look. The leather strap is soft, durable, and comfortable for daily wear. A clean date window calendar display adds everyday practicality. This wrist watch suits men's wrist watches and women's wrist watches, ideal for business, casual wear, or classic gift occasions.
- Mechanical Hand-Wound Movement: Powered by a classic manual mechanical movement, this wrist watch operates without batteries. Mechanical watches have limited power reserve, so daily or pre-use winding is essential to reduce time deviation and prevent stopping. If not properly wound, the watch may stop easily. Regular winding ensures stable performance and accuracy.
- Care Instructions for Long-Lasting Use: Please remove all protective films before wearing. Handle the watch gently and avoid vigorous activities. Keep away from strong magnetic fields, electronics, and sudden impacts. Avoid sauna use and environments with drastic temperature changes, as moisture may enter the case, leading to movement rust or damage over time.
- Daily Waterproof: This analog watch is daily waterproof, suitable for light splashes, rain, or accidental water drops. Not suitable for showering, swimming, or diving. Prolonged water exposure or use in extreme hot or cold environments may shorten the lifespan of the mechanical movement and affect accuracy.
- Ideal Gift for Any Occasion & Anyone: With its elegant retro style, this wrist watch suits any occasion and outfit. A thoughtful choice for gifts for men, gifts for women, birthday gifts, Christmas gifts, wedding gifts, or retirement gifts. Perfect as a gift for dad, mom, husband, boyfriend, sister, or yourself.
Seconds and date are separate
The seconds are shown on a central rotating disk, while the date appears to the right of center. This division keeps the prominent fan-shaped scales focused on the retrograde hour and minute indications. Monochrome’s 2024 hands-on review also describes the display and its on-wrist impression.
What changed in the revised No.6?
The manufacturer labels the updated specification “New Specifications (2023~)” and says design, materials, and manufacturing processes were improved to enhance stability and durability. The revisions include:
- Case steel changed from SUS303 to 316L stainless steel.
- Crystal changed from mineral glass to sapphire.
- Hands and screws received beveled finishing.
- The watch gained an engraved branded buckle and a specially designed strap.
- The method of fixing the lugs was changed.
Hodinkee also reported a change from an early meteorite dial to a satin-finished steel dial. Its article discussed early customer reliability and maintenance reports; those dated reports do not establish a current failure rate or confirm that every earlier concern has been resolved. Hodinkee’s No.6 coverage provides that historical context. If considering an older or pre-owned example, check its production year, dial, materials, condition, and warranty documentation rather than assuming it matches the current specification.

How much does the No.6 cost, and how can you buy one?
As listed on the official model page on September 27, 2026, the No.6 costs ¥495,000 including tax. The page directs buyers to an application lottery through the official shop; it does not promise immediate stock or guaranteed access. Price and purchase arrangements can change, so check the official No.6 page for the current listing and application route.
For context, Monochrome reported a price of ¥440,000 in its review published July 16, 2024. That is a historical price, not the current official list price. Its comments about Japan-limited sales and purchase restrictions likewise describe the situation at the time of that review, not verified current terms. A Ginza Axis page records one No.6 listing marked sold; a single sold listing does not establish general availability, resale pricing, or authorized-seller status. The individual Ginza Axis listing can be checked for its item-specific record.
What should owners know when setting the time?
Ōtsuka Lōtec instructs owners to set the time by turning the crown forward and warns against turning it backward because doing so could damage the mechanism. The manufacturer also notes that at 0:00 the hour and minute hands may differ by as much as 60 seconds in their return to zero. That is a stated operating characteristic, not by itself a diagnosis of a defect. Consult the official instructions if setting or reset behavior is in doubt.
