Verdict: The Pequignet Royale Paris is an unusually compact haute-horlogerie-style watch with a genuinely distinctive two-hemisphere moon display, a 96-hour in-house movement and excellent strap flexibility. At €8,500 TTC in steel, its weak points are equally clear: 5 ATM water resistance, a dress-first design and performance figures that remain manufacturer claims rather than independently tested results.
What the Royale Paris is
The Royale Paris is Pequignet’s 39.5mm stainless-steel automatic watch with a large date, small seconds, power-reserve indicator and double moon-phase display. The current opaline model is SKU 9100633 and the blue model is SKU 9100673. Both steel versions are listed at €8,500 TTC on the current official product pages, although other steel-dial variations are listed at €8,000.

The watch is designed as a formal complication piece rather than a sports watch. Its polished and satin-finished case, domed “glass box” sapphire crystal, fleur-de-lys embossed crown and screwed bezel give it visual presence without requiring a large diameter. The dial combines a grained surface with a concave perimeter cut described as a “gouge.”
Dimensions and wrist wear
| Specification | Stated figure | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Case diameter | 39.5mm | Compact by contemporary luxury-watch standards |
| Case thickness | 11.5mm | Moderate for an automatic with several complications |
| Lug-to-lug | 47mm | The key measurement for how far the watch spans the wrist |
| Lug width | 20mm | Allows a broad choice of compatible replacement straps |
| Water resistance | 5 ATM | Suitable for everyday splashes, not a dedicated swimming or diving watch |
The 39.5mm diameter and 47mm lug-to-lug length should suit many wrists that find larger dress watches cumbersome. At 11.5mm thick, it is not an ultra-thin piece, but the dimensions are sensible for a movement carrying a large date, power reserve, small seconds and moon-phase mechanism. The 5 ATM rating is the practical limitation: treat it as a dress-oriented watch and avoid using it for water sports.

The moon-phase display is the defining feature
Most moon-phase watches show one lunar disc through a single aperture. The Royale Paris instead displays the moon in its northern and southern hemispheres. The two windows use diamond-polished finishing, and Pequignet says the design was inspired by a real photograph. That gives the complication a visual identity beyond simply adding a moon indicator to a conventional dress dial.
The double moon display sits at 6 o’clock. The large date is integrated into the dial rather than placed on an outer pointer track, while the power-reserve indication is at 8 o’clock and the small seconds register at approximately 3:30. Blue Super-LumiNova TC1 is applied to the hands, providing limited low-light readability without changing the watch’s formal character.
Calibre Royal: architecture and stated performance
Pequignet says the Calibre Royal is designed and developed in-house, hand-assembled in Morteau, France, with components sourced within 80km of the manufacture. The company describes the 318-component movement as the first French-made mechanism to place its complications on the same plate. It also says the calibre is covered by eight international patents and uses a single large barrel.

The stated power reserve is 96 hours, an increase from the previously stated 88 hours. That reserve means the watch can be removed for a weekend and still be running when picked up again, assuming it was adequately wound. The 96-hour figure is the manufacturer’s current specification for this model.
| Performance claim | Pequignet’s figure | Evidence qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Operating range | -4 to +6 seconds per day | Manufacturer claim |
| Average after adjustment | +2 or -2 seconds per day | Manufacturer claim; no independent test is available here |
| Power reserve | 96 hours | Current product-page specification; previously stated as 88 hours |
Those accuracy numbers should not be treated as a verified independent timing result. The available product information gives the manufacturer’s operating range and adjusted average, but no dated laboratory measurement or long-term owner data establishes how a particular watch performs in use.

At €8,500, the steel model sits in a price bracket where buyers reasonably expect a distinctive movement and finishing story. The Royale Paris delivers that differentiation through its unusual display and French manufacture, but the 5 ATM rating and absence of independent performance data mean its value proposition is strongest for a collector who prioritizes mechanics, design and provenance over rugged versatility.
Strap changes and everyday ownership
The 20mm lugs make replacement straps straightforward in principle, and Pequignet documents a strap-interchangeability system for the Royale Paris. A compatible 20mm watch strap can therefore change the character of the watch—from formal leather to a more relaxed option—provided the replacement matches the lug fit, buckle dimensions and any quick-release hardware required by the specific strap system.
Because the case is polished and the crystal is domed, ordinary care matters more than it would on a tool watch. The 5 ATM rating supports normal daily wear and splash exposure, but swimming, showering and water-intensive activities are poor matches for this model’s stated protection.

- Elite Heritage – First issued by Britain’s Ministry of Defense, the military-style nylon watch strap was designed to be tough, lightweight, and failsafe. Ours is no different—a testament to uncompromising quality and design that cuts no corners.
- Classic Design – Here at Archer Watch Straps, we consider the military-style nylon strap the wayfarer of watch straps. That’s why it was our very first model. A perfect balance of fashion and function, our nylon bands are clean, classic, and timelessly sharp.
- Made to Endure – Honoring its esteemed history, our strap was carefully crafted with premium waterproof nylon and a durable stainless steel mil-spec buckle that won't chip or tarnish. Fit for the modern day adventurerer, it's one of the most durable straps in our lineup.
- Locked in Place – Using the simple Y-Strap ensures that if one of your watch’s spring bars fails, the other will keep that treasured time-piece on your wrist. Our straps are sewn with use time-tested, heavy-duty stitching, so unlike bands that use cheap heat-bonding, our seams won’t come apart.
- A Fit for Any Wrist – This classic style comfortably fits wrists from about 5.5” to roughly 8.5” in circumference. And don’t worry—any excess tucks away easily for your comfort and convenience. We’ve also spaced our stainless steel keeper rings to allow for added slack in the loop, giving you more flexibility for placing the watch and buckle along the band.
Warranty and servicing
Pequignet states that watches equipped with a Pequignet movement, including Royale models, receive a five-year warranty from the date of purchase. The warranty requires a dated, signed certificate stamped by an authorised retailer and covers manufacturing defects under normal use. Returned watches are examined by a master watchmaker.
The available information does not establish independent long-term durability, typical service pricing or real-world turnaround times. Those are ownership questions to confirm with the retailer before purchase, especially for a complicated movement with a long power reserve and multiple dial indications.
How to compare the Royale Paris with alternatives
Use four practical criteria rather than moon-phase appearance alone:
Best Value
- Environmental Silicone: Made of high quality environmental silicone, super soft, smooth to skin, and very comfortable to wear; match with stainless steel buckle, no allergies concerns
- Wear for Long Time: The strap can be washed repeatedly without fading, very sturdy
- Swap in Seconds: Equipped with quick release spring bars, this premium watch band can be changed anytime, anywhere, very convenient. And the package also includes a tool to help you remove your old straps
- Band Length: 75mm and 125mm. Many holes on the strap, you can adjust the best length that fit for your wrist perfectly. Please measure the watch lug width before ordering. Size=Band width=Watch lug width
- Go with Every Outfit: Fashionable stripe designed on the surface, elegant and exquisite. This stylish silicone watch strap can be matched with any style outfit, suitable for many occasions
- Wearability: compare the 39.5mm diameter, 11.5mm thickness and 47mm lug-to-lug span against your wrist and preferred dress-watch proportions.
- Movement architecture: distinguish the in-house, hand-assembled Calibre Royal and its stated 96-hour reserve from watches using shorter-reserve or outsourced movements.
- Display originality: assess whether the two-hemisphere moon, large date and power-reserve layout offer something you cannot get from a conventional single-disc moon phase.
- Practical value: weigh the €8,500 steel price and five-year warranty against the limited 5 ATM water resistance and the fact that accuracy figures are not independently verified here.
No independent head-to-head timing, durability or service-cost comparison is established by the available information, so those areas should remain open questions rather than assumed advantages.
Final assessment
The Royale Paris is at its best when its owner wants a small, technically ambitious French watch that looks unlike the usual moon-phase dress piece. The double-hemisphere display, 96-hour reserve, compact case and interchangeable 20mm strap format are meaningful strengths. It is less compelling for anyone seeking a hard-wearing daily sports watch, deep water resistance or independently documented accuracy. In steel, €8,500 buys a highly individual complication watch, but the purchase makes sense only if that individuality matters more to you than maximum practicality.
