The Piaget Polo S Chronograph is a 42 mm steel sports watch built around a cushion-shaped dial in a round case. Its 1160P automatic chronograph pairs a legible two-counter layout with a date at 6 o’clock. Published reviewers differed on how it wears, but both praised the dial and raised reservations about the bracelet. Their impressions are useful context—not a substitute for trying the watch on your own wrist.
How the Polo S Chronograph wears
There is no single wrist verdict in the published hands-on reviews. Louis Westphalen, writing for Hodinkee after wearing a blue-dial example for a week, initially found it large and high on his wrist, then said he adapted within days. Tom Mulraney’s Monochrome Watches review described the 42 mm watch as comfortable and wearing somewhat smaller than its diameter suggested. Those are individual impressions: wrist shape, preferred fit and bracelet adjustment can all change the experience.
Mulraney reported a case height of 11.2 mm, a relatively restrained figure for a chronograph of this diameter. That measurement is from his 2017 review of the model he examined; confirm dimensions against documentation for the exact reference under consideration.
The bracelet is the clearest point of disagreement
Both reviewers found reasons to question the bracelet. Westphalen considered it comparatively slim and criticized the finishing as rough. Mulraney objected to its feel and adjustment pins in relation to the case and price. These comments are subjective assessments of the reviewed examples, not proof that every Polo S bracelet will feel the same to every wearer.

Westphalen also noted that the bracelet is not fully integrated and that the watch can be worn on a strap. Piaget’s catalogue configuration for reference G0A43002 is a blue alligator-leather strap with a steel folding clasp. Aftermarket strap compatibility was not established in the cited material, so check fit and lug or attachment details before buying a replacement.
Case, dial and design lineage
The defining visual contrast is a round steel case framing a cushion-shaped dial. On the blue version, horizontal lines across the dial echo a motif Westphalen connected to the bracelet of the original Piaget Polo. The result is recognizably a sports watch, but not a conventional round dial-and-bezel design.
Hodinkee’s 2016 launch coverage dates the original gold Piaget Polo to 1979 and describes it as a prominent model of the 1980s. The Polo S was Piaget’s move into a steel sports-watch direction. Westphalen interpreted the S as “Sport,” not “Steel,” and saw the case as related to Piaget’s Emperador line. He also noted that the blue dial may recall the Nautilus. That resemblance is a matter of visual interpretation; the Polo S’s cushion dial, horizontal pattern and Piaget collection history give it its own design context.

Blue-dial steel sports watches invite comparisons, and the Polo S Chronograph does not avoid them. The more useful question is whether its combination of a round case, shaped dial and horizontal texture appeals to you on its own terms.
1160P movement and chronograph functions
Piaget’s catalogue identifies reference G0A43002 as using the manufacture 1160P self-winding mechanical movement. The dial organizes the chronograph and calendar functions in a practical, balanced layout:
- Central chronograph seconds: the central seconds hand records elapsed seconds when the chronograph is running.
- 30-minute counter: at 3 o’clock.
- 12-hour counter: at 9 o’clock.
- Date: displayed at 6 o’clock.
Mulraney’s 2017 technical review describes the 1160P as an integrated automatic chronograph with a column wheel and double barrel, running at 4 Hz with a reported 50-hour power reserve. These are specifications reported for the model he reviewed; they should not be assumed to cover every later Polo Chronograph reference. The official catalogue’s reference-level listing confirms the movement and functions for G0A43002.

What reviewers liked—and what to weigh
Legibility and operation
Both hands-on accounts praised the dial’s contrast or legibility. Westphalen also spoke positively about the chronograph’s operation. The two counters sit apart at 3 and 9 o’clock, with the date centered below them, giving the dial a clear functional structure without hiding its horizontal pattern.

Bracelet execution and fit
The strongest reservation across the reviews concerns bracelet feel or finishing, not the chronograph layout. If the bracelet is central to the appeal, inspect its links, clasp, adjustment method and condition in person where possible. If you prefer straps, the catalogue’s supplied alligator configuration establishes a factory strap option for G0A43002, but not universal compatibility for other straps.

Hodinkee reported a US launch-era price of $12,400 in its 2017 hands-on coverage. Monochrome Watches reported €14,700 in a 2017 review. These are historical figures in different currencies and contexts, not a current retail or resale valuation. The cited sources do not establish today’s price, availability or pre-owned market value.
For a purchase comparison, assess the exact reference, condition, provenance, service records and included bracelet or strap, then compare current offers in the relevant market. Do not treat an old published price as a benchmark for a particular watch today.

Who should consider the Polo S Chronograph?
It merits consideration if you want a steel automatic chronograph whose identity comes as much from its shaped blue dial and Piaget design history as from conventional sports-watch cues. The 1160P offers a useful two-counter arrangement and date, while the case dimensions are relatively compact in height according to the 2017 review. The bracelet is the part most worth examining carefully, because reviewer feedback on its feel and finish was mixed.
For comparisons with another luxury sports chronograph, focus on exact reference and case fit first, then movement architecture and functions, dial readability, bracelet adjustment or strap options, and the condition and service documentation of the particular watch. Those factors will tell you more than a broad comparison based on brand or dial color alone.
