As of August 18, 2026, the Pixel Watch 4 is still a strong Android smartwatch—but it is no longer an automatic buy at full price. Google’s Pixel Watch 5 has been announced and is scheduled to reach stores on August 20, so the Watch 4 makes the most sense when it is substantially discounted, or when you specifically want its bright domed display, improved charging, dual-frequency GPS, compact round design, and more repairable construction.
If you use a Pixel or Android phone and can find the Pixel Watch 4 well below its $349.99 starting price, the 45mm Bluetooth/Wi-Fi model is the best-value configuration for most buyers. If you are paying full price, upgrading from a Pixel Watch 3, or want the longest possible support runway, wait for independent Pixel Watch 5 reviews and compare the prices.

Quick verdict
Buy the Pixel Watch 4 at a meaningful discount; wait at full price.
- Best for: Pixel owners, Android users, Google services, Fitbit-derived health features, Wear OS apps, and compact round-watch design.
- Best size: 45mm, provided it fits comfortably. It offers more screen space and a longer official battery rating.
- Best connectivity: Bluetooth/Wi-Fi for most people; LTE only if you regularly leave your phone behind and have a compatible carrier.
- Skip it if: You use an iPhone, need several days of battery life, or train seriously with power meters and advanced endurance metrics.
- Buy now or wait? Wait if the Watch 5 costs only slightly more. Buy the Watch 4 when the discount creates a clear price gap.
The Pixel Watch 4 improves several long-standing weaknesses in Google’s smartwatch line. Its display is brighter, charging is faster, GPS is more capable, battery life is better than earlier generations, and the design is intended to be more repairable. Those are meaningful upgrades, but they do not turn it into a multi-day fitness watch or make it a compelling upgrade for every Pixel Watch 3 owner.

Google lists a starting price of $349.99 for the 41mm model and $399.99 for the 45mm configuration on its US store. Prices, LTE availability, promotions, and included subscriptions vary by region and change over time. See Google’s current configuration page before buying.
What changed from the Pixel Watch 3?
The Pixel Watch 4 is not a completely new smartwatch experience. The biggest improvements are practical rather than transformational:
- Brighter Actua 360 display: The domed AMOLED panel reaches a manufacturer-rated peak of up to 3,000 nits, with a 1-nit minimum brightness for darker environments.
- Longer battery ratings: Google rates the 41mm model for up to 30 hours and the 45mm model for up to 40 hours with always-on display enabled.
- Faster charging: Google claims up to 15 hours of battery after 15 minutes of charging, although actual results vary with settings and use.
- Dual-frequency GPS: This is designed to improve location accuracy in difficult areas such as dense cities, tree cover, and mountainous terrain.
- Improved repairability: Coverage identifies display and battery replacement as particular areas of improvement over previous Pixel Watches, though practical repair access remains region-dependent.
- Newer software: Wear OS 6, Google Health integration, and Gemini features are part of the newer platform.
These changes matter most if your Pixel Watch 3 battery is no longer sufficient, outdoor visibility is frustrating, GPS accuracy is important, or you depend on quick top-ups. They are less persuasive if you mainly check notifications, track occasional workouts, and already find the Watch 3’s endurance acceptable.

Google describes the Watch 4 as having its most comprehensive and accurate health and fitness tracking yet. That is a manufacturer claim, not proof that it is universally more accurate than every competing watch.
Design and display
The Pixel Watch 4 retains Google’s compact, rounded design, but its Actua 360 display gives the watch a larger active viewing area and a more edge-to-edge appearance. The domed glass looks distinctive and makes the interface feel immersive. It is also more exposed at the edges than a flat, utilitarian watch face, so buyers who frequently knock their watch against door frames or equipment should consider protection and repair costs.
The display specification is impressive on paper: up to 3,000 nits peak brightness, 1–60Hz adaptive refresh, 320 pixels per inch, and Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The high peak figure should help outdoors, but it is a peak manufacturer rating rather than a guarantee of sustained full-screen brightness in every situation. Glare, edge reflections, accidental touches, and scratch resistance should not be inferred from the headline brightness figure.
The aluminum case is light enough for all-day wear, including sleep tracking. Google lists the 41mm case at 31g without a band and the 45mm case at 36.7g. Both are 12.3mm tall.
41mm or 45mm?
| Model | Best for | Official wrist guidance | Weight without band | Official battery rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 41mm | Smaller wrists, lighter wear, less conspicuous styling | Approximately 130–210mm | 31.0g | Up to 30 hours with always-on display |
| 45mm | More screen space, workouts, maps, typing, and longer endurance | Approximately 150–215mm | 36.7g | Up to 40 hours with always-on display |
For most people, the 45mm model is the stronger value if it fits comfortably. The larger screen is easier to read and interact with, while the longer battery rating addresses one of the Pixel Watch family’s main limitations. Choose 41mm when comfort, wrist size, or a smaller appearance matters more than endurance.

Battery life and charging
Google’s official figures are “up to” estimates, not promises of normal use. The company rates the 41mm Watch 4 for up to 30 hours and the 45mm model for up to 40 hours with always-on display enabled. Google also lists up to 72 hours for the 45mm model in Battery Saver mode. Its testing uses pre-production hardware, default settings, and a defined usage pattern, so results vary with GPS, LTE, signal strength, brightness, music, and assistant use. Google explains the qualification on its Pixel Watch battery support page.
Independent battery testing from Android Central found that demanding use—including GPS, LTE streaming, and Bluetooth music—can reduce endurance substantially. That means the 45mm model’s best-case rating should not be treated as a guarantee for intensive cellular workouts. The Watch 4 is better than older Pixel Watches, but it is still not a multi-day endurance watch in the same category as many fitness-first competitors.
In everyday ownership, fast charging is arguably more important than the maximum number. A short top-up before a workout or overnight sleep tracking can make the Watch 4 practical, provided charging is part of your routine. LTE, continuous GPS, music streaming, high brightness, always-on display, poor cellular signal, and frequent voice-assistant use are the main battery stressors.
If battery life disappoints
- Use Bluetooth/Wi-Fi when your phone is nearby.
- Disable the always-on display if you need additional endurance.
- Use Battery Saver during low-priority periods.
- Top up for a few minutes before exercise or sleep.
- Judge endurance across several normal days rather than one unusually demanding day.
Health and fitness tracking
The Watch 4 combines Google’s health platform with Fitbit-derived tracking and smartwatch features. Google lists multi-path heart-rate sensing, workout tracking, sleep and stress tracking, skin-temperature sensing, SpO2-related features, personalized insights, and dual-frequency GPS. The product page and Google’s announcement also emphasize Google Health integration and coaching.
For general wellness and casual fitness, this is a strong feature set. You can track common workouts, monitor sleep and stress trends, review health information, and use Google services without carrying a separate fitness tracker. Pixel owners also benefit from the tightest integration with Google’s broader ecosystem.
Dual-frequency GPS is a meaningful upgrade for runners, walkers, and hikers who spend time near tall buildings, heavy tree cover, or uneven terrain. It is intended to reduce positioning errors, but GPS performance still depends on satellite visibility, the environment, software, and battery-saving choices.
The Watch 4 is less convincing as a dedicated training instrument for serious endurance athletes. Coverage has identified the lack of cycling power-meter support as a limitation. Runners, cyclists, triathletes, and long-distance hikers who need extensive structured-training analysis, long-event battery life, or specialist sensors may be better served by Garmin, COROS, Polar, or a dedicated cycling computer.

- The new Google Pixel Watch 5 offers a smarter way to a healthier you.[1,2]; Designed for Gemini Intelligence, get proactive help, and personalized insights from Google Health[3,4]; watch is compatible with Android devices only; not compatible with iOS devices
- Precision-crafted to do it all: The Google Pixel Watch 5 features the domed Actua 360 display with scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass and up to 40 hours of battery life[1,5]
- Metrics that matter: Advanced sensors help you stay ahead of your health and wellness; and Google Pixel’s most accurate heart rate tracking is fine-tuned for your activity[6,7]
- Understand your sleep like never before: Your watch captures insights like the time spent in sleep stages to breathing regularity, then summarizes it all in a personalized Sleep Score[8,9]
- Detects loss of pulse, then calls for help: Pixel Watch 5 is the only smartwatch to feature Loss of Pulse Detection, which can prompt a call to emergency services[10]
Gemini, Google Health, and subscriptions
Gemini is the watch’s newer assistant experience, while Google Health brings health data, routines, and coaching closer together. Voice and gesture-based interaction can be useful when you want to start an action without navigating multiple menus. In practice, Gemini is valuable when it saves time; the branding alone is not a reason to upgrade.
Advanced personalized coaching may depend on Google Health Premium. Google’s product page advertised three months included at the time represented by the supplied research, but promotions change and should be verified at purchase. Do not assume that every coaching feature remains available after the trial ends.
Before buying, consider whether you want recurring access to advanced health insights, whether the recommendations are actionable for your goals, and how you will access or export your data. AI-generated suggestions should not be treated as medical advice. The basic watch, notification, workout, and health-tracking experience is a different question from the value of premium coaching.

Google’s published specifications say the Pixel Watch 4 works with most phones running Android 11 or newer and requires a Google Account plus the Google Pixel Watch app. Android version is a baseline, not a guarantee that every feature works identically on every handset. Pixel phones are likely to receive the deepest Google integration.
The Watch 4 is not an Apple Watch alternative for iPhone users. If you use an iPhone, do not buy it.
Bluetooth/Wi-Fi or LTE?
Choose Bluetooth/Wi-Fi if your phone is usually nearby and you mainly want notifications, health tracking, music controls, apps, and Google services. It avoids an additional carrier plan and generally reduces connectivity-related battery drain.
Choose LTE if you regularly run, walk, or travel without your phone and need standalone messaging, navigation, or music. Check carrier compatibility before purchase. LTE battery life is lower, particularly where signal is weak.

The Watch 4 uses a 100% recycled aluminum case, has an IP68 rating, and is water-resistant to 50 meters. It also uses Gorilla Glass 5. These ratings make it suitable for ordinary daily exposure, exercise, sweat, and many water-related situations, but they do not make it invulnerable.
The domed display remains vulnerable to impact. Water resistance can decline with age, damage, or repair, and IP68 is not permission for every water activity. Confirm how your local warranty handles accidental and water damage.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesRepairability is one of the Watch 4’s most attractive ownership improvements. Coverage highlights greater attention to display and battery replacement than previous Pixel Watch generations. However, “more repairable” does not mean every repair is simple, inexpensive, or available in every market. Parts supply, authorized service, labor cost, warranty terms, and whether water resistance can be restored all matter. Repairability improves the proposition, but it is not a repair guarantee.
Pixel Watch 4 versus Pixel Watch 5: buy now or wait?
As of August 18, 2026: Google’s Pixel Watch 5 has been announced, with reporting indicating an August 12 launch announcement and store availability scheduled for August 20. The Watch 4 should therefore be judged against a near-term successor, not only against its original launch competition.
Early secondary reporting suggests the Watch 5 retains much of the Watch 4’s display, health, safety, and repairability package, making it appear more incremental than revolutionary. That is not enough to declare it definitively better. Final pricing, regional availability, battery performance, software differences, and independent testing determine whether the premium is justified.
The practical rule is simple:
- At full price: wait for the Watch 5 comparison unless you need the Watch 4 immediately.
- At a substantial discount: buy the Watch 4 if its current features satisfy you.
- If the Watch 5 costs only slightly more: the newer model is likely the safer long-term purchase, subject to confirmed reviews.
- For Pixel Watch 3 owners: upgrade for battery, display visibility, GPS, faster charging, or repairability—not merely because the model number changed.
Pixel Watch 4 alternatives
| Alternative | Choose it when… | Watch 4 is better when… |
|---|---|---|
| Pixel Watch 3 | It is heavily discounted and you want Pixel integration with basic smartwatch features. | You are frustrated by battery life, display visibility, GPS, or repairability. |
| Fitbit Charge 6 | You want simpler, lower-complexity fitness tracking. | You want Wear OS apps, maps, a larger display, or LTE. |
| Fitbit Air | You want a simpler Fitbit-oriented wearable. | You specifically want Gemini, Pixel apps, LTE, or a conventional smartwatch. |
| Samsung Galaxy Watch | You prefer Samsung hardware and its health ecosystem, especially without a Pixel phone. | You want the tightest Pixel and Google integration. |
| Garmin, COROS, or Polar | You prioritize endurance battery life and structured training. | You prioritize Google apps, Gemini, LTE smartwatch functions, and Pixel design. |
An Apple Watch is not a compatible alternative for Android users, and the Pixel Watch 4 is not a substitute for an iPhone-focused Apple Watch.
Recommended Free Tools
Who should buy the Pixel Watch 4?
- Pixel and Android owners who want Google’s most integrated smartwatch experience.
- Buyers who prefer a small, elegant round watch to a rugged sports design.
- People who want a very bright display and faster charging than earlier Pixel Watches.
- Users who value everyday wellness, sleep tracking, notifications, Google apps, safety tools, and casual workouts.
- Buyers who can find the 45mm model at a discount large enough to make it clearly cheaper than the Watch 5.
Who should skip it?
- iPhone owners.
- Anyone who needs several days of battery life.
- Serious endurance athletes who require advanced training analysis or cycling power-meter support.
- Buyers who dislike subscriptions for premium coaching or health features.
- People who want a flat, especially rugged outdoor-sports display.
- Anyone who can buy the Pixel Watch 5 for nearly the same price.
- Pixel Watch 3 owners whose current battery and display already meet their needs.
Final recommendation
The Pixel Watch 4 remains a good Android smartwatch and a particularly logical choice for Pixel-phone owners. Its 45mm model, bright domed display, improved charging, dual-frequency GPS, Google services, and better repairability make it a substantial product rather than a minor cosmetic refresh.
But the timing changes the verdict. With the Pixel Watch 5 scheduled for store availability on August 20, 2026, the Watch 4 should be a discount purchase, not the default full-price recommendation. Buy the 45mm Bluetooth/Wi-Fi version when it is meaningfully cheaper and its feature set already matches your needs. Choose LTE only when phone-free connectivity and a compatible carrier justify the extra cost and battery impact. If you are paying close to launch pricing or upgrading from a comfortable Pixel Watch 3, wait for the Watch 5’s confirmed price and independent test results.
