Google documents a Private Space notification issue affecting Wear OS, but its public support information does not confirm a fix version or timetable. Private Space notifications are not meant to be forwarded to a watch; on some devices, however, they may appear while the space is unlocked. The issue is not evidence that a Pixel Watch has a hardware defect.
What the Private Space issue looks like on a watch
Google’s Wear OS known-issues page describes several Private Space behaviors. They are not all the same problem:
- Missing notifications: Phone notifications from Private Space apps are not supposed to be bridged to a Wear OS watch.
- Unexpected notifications: On some manufacturers’ devices, Private Space notifications may appear on the watch while Private Space is unlocked.
- A work-profile badge or tab: The Wear OS companion app may display a work-profile tab even when the phone has no work profile. A badge on an unexpected notification may also look like a work-profile indicator.
- Missing media controls: Controls for media playing in a Private Space app do not appear on the watch.
Google describes the unexpected forwarding as affecting some OEM devices, not every Pixel Watch. Its documentation applies to Wear OS generally, so the issue is not limited to Google’s watch hardware.
How Private Space is meant to work
Private Space is a separate, profile-like environment for apps and their data—not simply a hidden launcher folder. It requires Android 15 or newer, and some managed or restricted phones cannot use it. To set it up on a supported phone, go to Settings → Security & privacy → Private space. Google recommends using a separate Google Account in Private Space to reduce the chance that data from that environment appears elsewhere. See Google’s Android Private Space guide.

Apps installed in Private Space are separate instances from the same apps in the phone’s main space. When Private Space is locked, its apps stop and cannot perform background activity or show notifications. When it is unlocked, apps can run normally; the watch issue Google describes is that some devices may then forward notifications despite the intended boundary.
It also matters whether an alert comes from an app installed on the watch or from a phone app being forwarded. Wear OS can show both kinds. Google’s warning concerns notifications bridged from phone apps in Private Space; a watch-native app is a different notification path and may behave differently.
Which phones and watches are in scope?
Private Space requires Android 15 or later. Google’s Wear OS documentation describes the bridging issue in connection with Android 15 phone notifications and Wear OS devices generally. Pixel Watch owners are relevant, but Google does not describe this as a Pixel Watch-only fault or identify every affected phone, watch model, or software build.

If you report a problem or compare results with another owner, include the phone model and Android build, watch model and Wear OS version, Pixel Watch app version, whether Private Space was locked or unlocked, and whether the alert came from a phone app or an app installed on the watch. Those details help separate the documented edge case from ordinary notification trouble.
Has Google fixed it?
Google acknowledges the behaviors on its support page, but that page does not name a patch, Android or Wear OS release, or date for a complete fix. The headline from 2024 that fixes were “on the way” should not be treated as a current Google commitment. November 2024 coverage by Android Central and PiunikaWeb is historical context, not confirmation of a 2026 resolution.
Install available updates, but do not assume a general Pixel Watch or Android update fixes this particular issue unless its release notes or Google’s current guidance explicitly say so. The documented behavior is a software-integration problem involving Private Space, Android notifications, and the Wear OS bridge; the cited information does not indicate a watch hardware defect.

What to try if notifications are missing or appearing unexpectedly
Install available updates
Check for updates to the phone, watch, Google Pixel Watch app, and affected apps. Google includes update checks in its general Pixel Watch notification troubleshooting. Updating is sensible maintenance, not a confirmed Private Space-specific repair.
Review which phone apps can forward notifications
In the Google Pixel Watch app on the phone, select the watch, then open Settings → Notifications → App Notifications. Review the app list and turn off forwarding for apps whose alerts should not reach the watch. Google documents this control in its notification-management instructions. Disabling an app here suppresses its ordinary main-space notifications too; it does not selectively repair Private Space forwarding.
Compare locked and unlocked behavior
With a non-sensitive app or account, check whether the same phone app produces a watch alert when Private Space is locked and when it is unlocked. Also note whether the phone and watch are connected over Bluetooth, or whether the watch is using Wi-Fi or LTE. Google specifically associates unexpected Private Space forwarding with the unlocked state on some devices. A test helps identify the pattern; it cannot guarantee that sensitive alerts will always stay off the watch.

Check ordinary watch notification settings
If notifications from apps outside Private Space are also missing, use Google’s standard troubleshooting steps: confirm the watch is connected, check notification permissions for the Pixel Watch app, and check Do Not Disturb, Bedtime, Theater mode, and the setting that silences notifications when the watch is not worn. Re-pairing may help with general synchronization trouble, but Google does not document it as a fix for the Private Space issue.
Stop using Private Space if the behavior is unacceptable
If sensitive alerts are appearing on your wrist, temporarily stop using the feature until you are comfortable with its behavior. Locking Private Space stops its apps and their normal background notifications, but users handling highly sensitive information should not treat the watch boundary as infallible while Google documents this edge case.
Locking, hiding, and deleting Private Space are different actions. Do not delete or reset it casually: Google warns that doing so removes the apps and data stored inside. Check Google’s Pixel Private Space guidance before deleting or resetting it.

Is Private Space a replacement for a full second profile?
Not if you need the capabilities of a separate user or a managed work profile. Google lists restrictions that can matter when choosing it:
- Private Space cannot receive content directly through Quick Share, use Find Hub or voice commands, or add its app widgets and shortcuts to the main home screen.
- App data in Private Space is not included in ordinary device backup and restore.
- Private Space apps bypass the device VPN, and Private Space cannot be used to pair and manage smart-home devices.
- Managed-device policies, multiple users, and profile limits can affect availability.
A work profile is intended for managed separation and may bring administrator controls. A secondary Android user offers broader separation but is less convenient and may be restricted. Samsung Secure Folder is an option on supported Samsung phones, not on Pixel phones. A separate phone avoids relying on the same phone-to-watch profile bridge, at the cost of another device to maintain.
How to decide whether to keep using it
- It may suit you if you mainly want to hide apps and separate their data, can tolerate missed watch alerts, and do not want sensitive notifications on your wrist.
- Choose another arrangement if you need dependable watch alerts from isolated apps, require the listed Private Space features, or need a stronger, more predictable boundary for sensitive notifications.
Before relying on Private Space for sensitive activity, test its behavior with a non-sensitive app and account, and review which apps the watch is allowed to notify you about.
