The Rado Anatom Automatic revives a distinctive Rado design built around a square case and a curved sapphire crystal. Current versions share the R766 automatic movement and a stated 72-hour power reserve, but differ in bracelet materials, finishes and dial details. The exact reference number is therefore essential when comparing models.

What makes the Rado Anatom distinctive?

Rado dates the Anatom’s world premiere to late 1983. Its defining features were a square case and a convex sapphire crystal shaped to follow the curve of the wrist. Rado says those elements continued to influence its later designs. The Swatch Group describes the high-tech-ceramic version as a new chapter arriving about 40 years after the original.

The crystal is part of the watch’s overall form, visually flowing into the case and bracelet rather than reading as a generic flat window. That construction is a reason to check compatibility with Rado or a qualified watch service provider before assuming an aftermarket crystal or strap will fit.

What movement is in the Rado Anatom Automatic?

Rado specifies its R766 automatic caliber for the cited current Anatom Automatic references. The manufacturer lists 21 jewels, a Nivachron hairspring and a 72-hour power reserve. Rado also says the movement is tested in five positions. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent accuracy-test results; the five-position claim should not be read as a published accuracy guarantee.

What to check before choosing one

  • Exact reference: Confirm the model number on the watch and seller listing matches the Rado product page.
  • Materials and finish: Compare the specific ceramic, steel, PVD-coated steel or rubber components; variants are not interchangeable descriptions of one configuration.
  • Dimensions: Confirm the full case measurements on the listing for your reference, rather than relying only on the 32.5 mm diameter listed for the cited examples.
  • Warranty and service: Check what warranty applies in your market and who will handle service, especially for the shaped sapphire crystal and reference-specific bracelet construction.
  • Seller terms: Verify authenticity, return policy and seller authorization directly. Rado’s product pages establish manufacturer specifications, not the authenticity or availability of third-party listings.
