Current references such as R32105203 and R32154208 are listed at 30 bar (300 m), while Rado’s 2019 launch material and service documentation include 42 mm models rated to 20 bar (200 m). The exact reference matters—especially when comparing water resistance, movement, case details, straps and price.
Which 42 mm Captain Cook is this review about?
Rado has used the Captain Cook name for multiple configurations and generations. The figures below are tied to the specific references in Rado’s listings and documents; they should not be treated as universal specifications for every 42 mm Captain Cook.
| Reference and source | Documented configuration | Water resistance | Price information |
|---|---|---|---|
| R32105203, Rado US listing | 42 mm automatic with date; R763 caliber; 80-hour stated reserve; 12.3 mm thick; five-position movement testing and Nivachron hairspring. | 30 bar (300 m), as stated by Rado. | $2,650 in the indexed US listing, which was marked out of stock. This is a regional listing snapshot, not a current universal price. |
| R32154208, Rado product page | Polished stainless-steel case, rotating steel bezel with blue high-tech ceramic insert, sapphire caseback, date, R763 caliber, 80-hour stated reserve, five-position movement testing and Nivachron hairspring. Rado states a weight of 164 g and lists a steel bracelet plus blue leather and blue-and-white textile strap options. | 30 bar (300 m), as stated on Rado’s current 42 mm product listings. | CHF 2,550 including VAT on the cited page; market-specific and not directly comparable with the US price for another reference. |
| 763.6105.3.031, Rado January 2020 release | Green automatic with ETA C07.611, 25 jewels, date, box-shaped sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides, ceramic bezel insert, screw-down crown and caseback. Dimensions: 42.0 × 48.6 × 12.3 mm. | 30 bar (300 m), per Rado’s release. | Not stated in the cited release. |
| 2019 launch references; service document for R32505153 | Rado’s 2019 collection launch material covers the original collection-era 42 mm models. For R32505153, the service document lists a 42 mm case, 12.3 mm thickness, ETA C07.611 and up to 80 hours of reserve. | 20 bar (200 m) for the launch references listed in the collection document and for R32505153 in its service document. | Not stated in the cited documents. |
Rado traces the modern collection to an original Captain Cook model from 1962. That heritage does not make the specifications interchangeable: confirm the reference number on the watch, listing or warranty paperwork before relying on a particular rating or feature.
What do 20 bar and 30 bar on a Captain Cook mean?
The difference is reference-specific, not simply a distinction between a watch bearing “300 m” on its dial and one that does not. Rado’s current product pages for listed 42 mm examples specify 30 bar (300 m). Its 2019 collection material and the service document for R32505153 specify 20 bar (200 m). Rado’s January 2020 release also specifies 30 bar for reference 763.6105.3.031.
#1 Best Overall
- Case Materials and Thickness: High-Tech Ceramic, Stainless Steel. 12.3 mm
- Dial: Green colored dial, with white Super Luminova Indexes and Date Display at 3 o'clock. Sapphire Crystal with antireflective coating on both side of the crystal
- Bracelet: Silver Rice Bead Bracelet with Fold Over Clasp
- Movement: Swiss Automatic Movement and 80 Hours Movement
- Water Resistant: 20 bar (200 m)
These are manufacturer-stated water-resistance ratings, not evidence here of independent testing, a diving certification, or the condition of any individual watch. A rating alone does not establish suitability for every kind of diving. For a pre-owned watch or a reference with conflicting listings, verify the exact reference and have the individual watch’s water resistance assessed by a qualified service provider before exposing it to water.
Movement and power reserve
Current Rado pages for R32105203 and R32154208 identify the automatic movement as R763 and state an 80-hour power reserve. Rado also says the movement is tested in five positions and uses a Nivachron antimagnetic hairspring. The available information does not establish an independent accuracy result or a measured performance figure for either reference.

- Rado Captain Cook Swiss Automatic Movement, Bronze Case and Fabric Bracelet
- Red Case Made of Bronze, High Tech Ceramic and Titanium, Round Shape
- Sapphire Crystal with anti-reflective coating
- Easy Clip
- Water Resistance: 30 bas (300 m)
Rado’s older documentation uses the designation ETA C07.611: the 2019 service document for R32505153 states up to 80 hours of reserve, and the 2020 release for 763.6105.3.031 lists the same caliber, 25 jewels and up to 80 hours. These historical specifications should not be silently substituted for the R763 designation on current listings.
Case dimensions and fit information
“42 mm” gives the nominal case diameter, but does not tell the whole fit story. Rado’s January 2020 release records the green reference 763.6105.3.031 at 42.0 × 48.6 × 12.3 mm. Current product information gives 12.3 mm thickness for R32105203 and R32154208. The cited sources do not supply a complete set of lug-to-lug, thickness and weight measurements for every reference, so a precise fit comparison across the family is not possible from these specifications alone.

For the green 763.6105.3.031, Rado’s 2020 release specifies a ceramic bezel insert and a box-shaped sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. The cited documents also describe luminous material, but do not establish a measured brightness or duration for it.

That supports the system’s existence, not universal compatibility: check that a replacement is specified for the exact reference before buying.

What this review can—and cannot—establish
Rado’s documentation supports a feature-based assessment: the cited 42 mm examples pair automatic movements with an 80-hour stated reserve, sapphire and ceramic details on specified variants, and either a 20-bar or 30-bar stated water-resistance rating depending on reference. It does not establish firsthand comfort, wrist-size suitability, bezel feel, bracelet taper or clasp feel, measured accuracy, long-term reliability, or independent water-resistance performance. Those judgments require inspection or testing of the exact watch.
