Rado announced three new DiaStar Original Skeleton limited editions on 1 June 2026: blue, green and red versions, each limited to 555 pieces. All three use the automatic R808 movement with an 80-hour power reserve. The red model is reference R12169409; its regional Rado product page lists a 38 mm case and a price of AED 10,550, while Rado’s US collection page showed $2,550 for a 38 mm skeleton limited edition when reviewed. Those are market-specific listed prices, not universal pricing or confirmation of current stock.
What are the new Rado DiaStar Original watches?
The launch is a trio of DiaStar Original Skeleton watches in blue, green and red. Rado describes the design as combining a convex oval Ceramos bezel, an annular dial, a skeletonised movement and a rubber strap matched to each edition’s color. Dial and lume details vary by version.
Rado says each color edition is limited to 555 pieces. The caseback is engraved “LIMITED EDITION, ONE OUT OF 555,” and each watch is supplied with special packaging and a Limited-Edition Certificate. These are specifications announced by Rado, rather than independent confirmation of production totals or remaining stock. Rado’s 1 June 2026 launch announcement
What is different about the Skeleton edition?
The skeletonised dial exposes the R808 automatic movement as part of the watch’s visual design. Rado describes the calibre as a 25-jewel, three-hand movement with a Nivachron hairspring and an 80-hour power reserve. The launch release also says the movement is tested in five positions. The case uses a Ceramos bezel and sapphire crystal; a transparent sapphire case back provides another view of the movement.

The red edition’s regional product listing gives a more specific picture of one model: reference R12169409 has a 38.0 mm stainless-steel case, 11.9 mm thickness and a listed weight of 70.5 g. It pairs a red-and-rhodium dial with a red rubber strap and pin buckle. Do not assume every detail, including color or lume treatment, is identical on the blue and green editions. How does the 30 mm DiaStar compare with the 38 mm models?
The DiaStar Original range includes substantially different configurations. The examples below show why it is important to compare exact references rather than apply one model’s specifications to the whole collection. Rado says the original DiaStar was presented in April 1962 at the Basel watch fair and describes it as an early scratch-resistant watch that brought hard metal and sapphire crystal into the company’s watchmaking story. The new Skeleton editions continue the collection with modern materials including a Ceramos bezel and sapphire crystal; that does not mean their construction or specifications are identical to the 1962 watch.
