The watch is a second-series Patek Philippe Ref. 2499 in 18K pink gold. Its complication set combines a perpetual calendar with a chronograph, allowing the watch to display calendar information while also timing events. Pink gold is a key part of its appeal: it is less frequently encountered among Ref. 2499 watches than more commonly seen case materials, and the warm metal is especially sought after when the case, dial and movement remain well preserved.

How scarce is it?
Phillips states that only 349 Ref. 2499 examples were made over nearly 35 years. Within that already limited production, Phillips says only eight second-series examples in pink gold are publicly known. That eight-watch figure applies specifically to the second series in pink gold; it is not a count of every Ref. 2499 or every pink-gold example across all series.
Estimate versus eventual price
The New York lead lot is expected to fetch more than $3 million. That is an estimate, not a guaranteed result or a reserve-price disclosure. The final amount will depend on the catalogue description, condition, bidding competition, buyer confidence and the market on the sale dates.

The strongest recent comparison
A first-series pink-gold Ref. 2499 sold at Phillips Hong Kong for HK$80,370,000, or US$10,255,212, on May 31, 2026. Phillips described that watch as “an historically important, equally rare and well-preserved pink gold perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatch.”
The Hong Kong result demonstrates that an exceptional pink-gold Ref. 2499 can trade far above a $3 million estimate. It does not establish the New York watch’s final value: the two watches belong to different series, and price depends on each example’s condition, originality, documentation and bidding circumstances. The New York lot’s result remains unknown until the auction takes place.

The broader Hong Kong Watch Auction XXII realized US$51,523,973, with 1,928 registered bidders from 64 countries and regions. Those figures provide context for international appetite for high-end watches, but they are not a forecast for the New York sale or for one particular Patek Philippe.

What could determine the New York result
Condition and originality
For a vintage perpetual-calendar chronograph, buyers will scrutinize the case, dial, hands, movement, calendar indications and any replaced components. Series-specific comparisons
The most useful comparison is with other pink-gold Ref. 2499 watches from the same series, rather than with every Ref. 2499. The Hong Kong first-series result is an important market signal, but series, condition and originality must be weighed before using it as a valuation guide.
